Lionel Joseph Babin, Sr. passed away peacefully on May 3, 2026, at The Parc Senior Living, surrounded by his loving family.
He was married to the irreplaceable love of his life, Doris, for 25 years, up until her death. They truly modeled what a loving marriage should look like.
He had a true zest for life, and his passion was dancing. He loved playing practical jokes on the unsuspecting. He also was a jack of all trades; he could fix just about anything—earning him the nickname “Mac Gyver”
His interests included CB radios, camping, fishing, deer hunting, and road trips.
Lionel proudly served as Fire Chief of the St. Amant Fire Department and was also a member of the Woodmen of the World.
He is survived by his daughters, Rhonda Dean (Roy), Donna Gautreau (Layne); his son, Mann Babin (Yolanda); grandchildren, Christian, Jake, Alex, Luke, and Carly, Traci and Lacy; great-grandchildren, Adelyn, Liam, Trey, Jonah, Reese,Ganon,Corinne, Brody, Brock, Briggs and Bryar; his sister-in-law, Pam Fontenot; brother-in-law, Mark De Laune and many nieces and nephews.
He was proceeded in death by his loving wife, Doris Templet Babin; son, Mark Joseph Babin; granddaughter, Christian Noelle Dean; his parents, Bertrand and Laura Tucker Babin; and brothers,Walter, Louis and Ashton Babin.
He will be deeply missed by his Parc family and his many dancing partners and friends.
The family would like to express deep gratitude to the staff of The Parc Senior Living and Hospice of Baton Rouge for their compassionate care and companionship during his final days.
Visitation will be held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 44450 LA-429, Saint Amant, LA 70774, on May 16, 2026, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by the Funeral Service at 11:00 am at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
Pallbearers will be Alex Gautreau, Traci Babin, Jake Dean, Luke Gautreau, Eric Labatut, Ricky Duplessis, and Honorary Pallbearer Rocky Gant
Final resting place will be at Holy Rosary Catholic Church Mausoleum.
A meal will be provided by the Jambalaya Festival Association & Holy Rosary Church at the Home of Layne and Donna Gautreau. All friends & family are welcome to join us in celebrating his life and sharing their memories.
