

Onezime D. Becnel "Chukee" a native of Burnside and resident of Sorrento passed away Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at 3:45 am in Baton Rouge at The Crossing at Clarity Hospice at the age of 84. He was a Veteran of the United States Army and a retired Boilermaker having worked out of Boilermaker's Union Local #37. Visiting will be held at St. Anne Catholic Church in Sorrento on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 from 9:00 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am conducted by Rev. Keun Soo Lee with entombment to follow at Holy Rosary Catholic Church Mausoleum in St. Amant. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley Marie Reine Becnel, 3 daughters and 3 sons-in-law: Beverly (Susie) and Johnnie Balfantz, Sr., Melissa and Duane Bourque and Lisa & Jeff Duhe', 1 son and daughter-in-law: Brian and Tina Becnel, 2 sisters: Carolyn Summers and Thelma Badeaux and 1 brother: Callen Becnel, 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents: Yves Pierre Becnel, Sr. and Edna Schexnayder Becnel, Son: Lonnie Becnel, Sr., 2 grandsons, 2 brothers: Yves Becnel, Jr. and Hubert Becnel and 1 sister; Rita Haydel. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons Lonnie Becnel, Jr., Johnnie Balfantz, Jr., Jacob Balfantz, Devin Duplessis, Daniel Bourque, Jeremy Duhe' and Jody Duhe'. He loved hunting, fishing, gardening and spending time with his wife and his family.
