Sandra Ann Cormier Fontenot, age 71, of Prairieville, LA, passed away on Friday, December 27, 2024. Sandra was born September 14, 1953, in Church Point, Louisiana, to Essie and Louise Cormier. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Carl “C.J.” Fontenot; son Charles Fontenot and his wife Megan Fontenot; grandchildren, Oscar Fontenot and Frances Fontenot; and sisters Eva Mae Cason and Janell Thibodeaux. She also leaves many nephews, nieces, and cousins of all degrees. She is preceded in death by her parents, Essie Cormier and Louise Babineaux Cormier; brothers, Charles Cormier, Leo Cormier, and Weston Cormier; nephews, Charles R. Cormier and Robert Cormier; niece, Brenda Cormier; her aunt, Addie Noel and her beloved goddaughter, Addie Cason. Sandra was a native of Church Point, Louisiana, and she came from humble beginnings as her mother and father were sharecroppers. Eventually, her parents opened a grocery store, and Sandra moved to Sunset, Louisiana. During her time at Sunset High, Sandra would make many lifelong friends through her participation in the marching band, where she was first chair trumpet, student government, and through the power of her gregarious personality. From Sunset, her life would take her to various jobs where she took immense pride in her ability to keep clean and correct books. Through one of these jobs, she met the love of her life, C.J. Fontenot. Their love and devotion carried them in each other’s arms through good times and bad. They went on to have a son, Charles, to whom she poured immeasurable love and countless life lessons. Her grandchildren, Oscar and Frances, were born towards the end of her journey on earth, but her love for them was incalculable, and she will always watch over them. Sandra’s Catholic faith was unshakable, and she knew that her life did not end when her body could not go on. She was always smiling, singing, dancing, and laughing with everyone, especially her dear sisters; she was fiercely loyal to her family and would do anything to help her nephews, nieces, and godchildren. She is loved without end, and her legacy will be carried in the hearts of all those she has touched for generations to come. The family extends their deepest gratitude to Debbie Cormier for her help and comfort in Sandra’s final days. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, December 30, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Saint Charles Borromeo Church in Grand Coteau, Louisiana. Friends may visit from 12:00 pm Monday until the service time at 2:00 pm at the Church. Sandra will be laid to rest at Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas, Louisiana following the service.
