

school, she worked at Keesler Air Force Base where she met and married a young Cajun man, Curney Lyons. She often said it was the best thing that happened to her. Together they moved to Church Point and later Lafayette before settling in Gonzales in 1972. She was a talented seamstress and gardener, making lifelong friends through the Gonzales Garden Club. In her younger years, Shirley could be found at water aerobics, on the golf course, or playing cards with the "Golf Bags" ladies. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Gonzales.
Shirley is survived by her children Thomas Lyons (Lisa), Marie Lyons Brown, Hoyt Lyons (Kristi), and Jennifer Lyons; her sisters Bobbi Jean Rodriguez, Maxine Ramsay, Beverly Wilder; her caring and loving youngest sister Juanita Moore; her grandchildren Sydney Brown-Chua, Bryce and Carly Lyons, and Megan and Brooke Stein; and numerous great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband Curney, her parents Estanie “Teenie” Barras Walden and Wyatt “Slats” Walden, her granddaughter Megan Leigh Brown, brother Lester Walden and son-in-law Kevin Brown.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday December 28th at First United Methodist Church 224 W. Constitution St. Gonzales, La. from 9:30 to 11:00 am with services immediately following. Burial at Serenity Oaks Memorial Park in Prairieville, LA (formerly Oak Lane Memorial Park). Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ourso Funeral Home of Gonzales.
