

On February 12, 2013 at the Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge, La. Stefan Joseph Fontenot, born in Sorrento, La. on September the 28th, 1947 went home to be with his Lord. Stefan leaves behind his beloved wife of 40 years, Cheryl Ann Kernan born in Gonzales, La., six sons and 4 daughters-in-law. They are Michael Anthony and Rebecca Black Fontenot of Denham Springs, La., Seth Fontenot, Brady Jude and Kristi Williams Fontenot of Central, La., Chet Adam and Petra Dedicova Fontenot of Baton Rouge, La., Andy Paul and Jessica Blankenship Fontenot and Kern Fontenot. Seth, Andy and Kern reside in Gonzales, La. Services will be held at The Church, 13423 Highway 431, St. Amant, La., on Saturday, Feb. 16 with viewing from 9 a.m. -11:30 a.m. Services will follow immediately after at The Church. His burial will be at Oak Lane Memorial, 15304 Highway 73, Prairieville, La. Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales is in charge of arrangements. He is also survived by his parents, Ellis Joseph Fontenot of Whitehall, La. and Elsie LeBlanc Fontenot of Sorrento, La. and one brother and sister in law, Brent Joseph and Kim Adkins Fontenot of League City, Texas. Stefan leaves behind 15 grandchildren, Chad Michael Forbes, Stephanie Michelle Fontenot, Anthony Garret Fontenot, Jacob Michael Fontenot, Noah Paul Fontenot, Hannah Nicole Fontenot, Jaden Paul Fontenot, Jobe Thomas Fontenot, Honor Kate Fontenot, Jude Christian Fontenot, Kaleb Anthony Fontenot, Sadie Marie Fontenot, Elijah James ""Eli"" Fontenot, Julia Milena Fontenot, Micah Jirka Fontenot and his 16th grandchild is due in June. He currently has 3 great grandchildren, Demi Fontenot, Caleb Forbes, and Aliceson Michelle Rankin. Preceding their grandfather's death was grandson Matthew Fontenot and great granddaughter Abigail Rebekah-Ann Tate. Stefan and his wife Cheryl were the founders of The Jambalaya Shoppe. He was active in his younger days coaching little league baseball. When Stefan graduated from St. Amant High School he left behind a football and track record due to his speed. He was proud to see that this same speed show up again in his children and grandchildren. It gave him pleasure to watch them, the boys and the girls run the bases. A member of the NRA, Stefan also enjoyed hunting. In his latter days, he was retired and enjoyed his many animals including deer at his resident/camp. Thanks to the many medical personnel that treated our beloved Stefan over the years. A special thanks to Dr's. Darren Breaux, Brent Allain, and Michael Connors who saved his life time and again and gave us many extra years to enjoy him. Pall bearers will be his six sons and also grandsons, Noah and Jude Fontenot. Honorary pall bearers will be grandsons, Chad Forbes and Anthony Fontenot. He was loved and will be missed. May he rest in Peace.
