Sylvia DeGruy

Sylvia Rita Matherne DeGruy, of St. Amant, passed away March 04, 2026. She was born in New Orleans, LA on November 20, 1933. Sylvia was a loving wife, mother, grandmother , sister and friend to many. She was married to Harold Joseph Verloin DeGruy, Jr on July 30, 1955. They celebrated 50 years of marriage.

Sylvia had a passion for gardening , cooking , making cakes and candy with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved her family and spending time making memories with them.

She is survived by her children, Tammy Landry (Michael), Harold DeGruy III (Susan) , Collette Diez (Kevin), and Darryl DeGruy (Kristin); grandchildren, Michael Landry, Jr (Natalie), Nichole Coriell (Steven), Christopher DeGruy (Ashley), Corey DeGruy (Amber), Katelyn DeGruy (Channing LeBlanc), Tessa Renaud (Mike), Wes Diez (Chelsea), Mindy Alexis Diez, Abby Diez (Jesse Boere), Amanda Diez, Matthew Diez, Margaret DeGruy (Jaden O’Rourke), Daniel DeGruy; great-grandchildren, Ender Landry, Olive Landry & Eleanor Landry, Elijah Coriell, Audrey Coriell & Asher Coriell, Jayden Louque, Caden DeGruy, Haylee DeGruy, Justin Richard, Cullen Richard, Hope DeGruy, Ruby DeGruy, Brooklyn LeBlanc & Brilynn LeBlanc, Gabe Renaud , Grace Renaud (Ramiro Avalos), Faith Renaud, Ava Renaud, Vander Renaud & Keaton Renaud, Jacee Diez, Mason Diez & Aria Diez.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Olive Moran Matherne and Alexander Matherne; her siblings, June Bier, Larkell Cardenia, and Melvin Matherne.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, March 13, 2026 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 44450 LA-429 St. Amant, LA 70774. The visitation will begin at 10AM with Mass at 11AM. The burial will follow in the church cemetery.
