With his loving greeting of "Hey, Boo" and a heart of gold, Snook was always up for a good time enjoying Cajun food, music, LSU football, and the outdoors with his family and friends. He enjoyed teasing each and every one of them.
He cooked the best jambalaya and deer sauce piquante, cherished every opportunity to hunt and fish, even if he didn't come home with anything. He liked to visit the flea market and he loved telling everyone about the fishing trip he took with his family to Port Fouchen and the eight-point deer he killed. His most prized possessions were the taxidermy mounts he proudly displayed.
A graduate of East Ascension High School, Snook went on to work in state service at the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development for 31 years, where he retired in 2009. He never moved away from home and was especially close with his parents, with whom he kept a well-tended lawn (he cut the grass whether it needed it or not), vegetable garden, hunting camp, and collection of old westerns to watch on TV. Being from a large family, he spent his life surrounded by numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins. He also regularly burned up Highways 431, 16, and 22 in search of pastimes with friends up and down the Amite River.
Snook was preceded in death by his mother, Clara Lavigne Buratt. He leaves behind his father, Wilbert "Chut" Buratt; his two big brothers, Steve (Patsy) and Gralin"Bodi”; and several nephews and nieces. Snook was also loved by his sisters-in-law, Nancy Abbott Buratt (deceased) and Karen Bounds Buratt.
A remembrance of his life will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at Ourso Funeral Home, 13533 Airline Hwy. Gonzales, LA 70737, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with a funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Lake Cemetery.
