Winston “Wimp” Long , a resident of St. Amant, Louisiana, passed away on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at the age of 83, surrounded by his family. Wimp was born in Cochrane, Alabama on October 23, 1938. He was a millwright with Local 720, a livestock transporter for many area stockyards and a proud member of the Louisiana Cattleman’s Association. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Karol Martine Long; his sons, Todd (Kathy) Long and Chad (Mikie) Long; grandchildren, Taylor (Matt) Oswald, Brannon, Meredith, Marissa, Madelyn and Mia Long; his great grandchildren, Lincoln and Camille Oswald; his sisters, Sue Sanders of Demopolis AL, Nancy Garnand of Eutaw, AL, Nell (Elton) Gibson of Aliceville, AL; and sisters-in-law Jean Long of Cochrane, AL and Kathy Long of Dancy, AL; brother-in-law, Fred Baker of Columbus, MS; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Brian Long; parents, Winston and Nannie Lee Smith Long; brothers, Perry Long and Harold Long; sisters, Anne Baker and Blanche Ewing. Wimp was a cowboy and a cattleman. He enjoyed driving his truck hauling livestock and was an avid follower of all things rodeo. Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for visitation at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Amant on Saturday January 22, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 p.m. Following the mass he will be laid to rest in the Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church Cemetery. Pallbearers are Layne Brignac, Brian Janis, Shawn Martine, Keith Martine, Mark Schexnayder and Chael Stafford. In lieu of flowers Wimp would simply want you to “Eat More Beef”.
