Marguerite was born to Louis and Gladys Delfraisse on November 2, 1917, in Hachita, New Mexico. The family moved to Laredo, where Marguerite grew up along with her brother, Harold and sister, Evelyn. She married Richard Bradford Harvey on August 17, 1935 and they moved to Corpus Christi in 1938. They had 7 children, 5 sons and 2 daughters.
One of their sons, Matt, was stricken with polio encephalitis and was left totally paralyzed when he was 3 years old. He became the inspiration for Marguerite to return to college when she was 45 and earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Texas A&I so she could teach special education. She later returned to college for several summers and earned a Master of Science degree from Texas A&I. She taught school from the age of 48 until she was 70. She was an excellent teacher and enriched the lives of so many special-needs children. During all this time she steadfastly and lovingly cared for her son Matt, keeping him alive and happy many years past the doctor’s prediction.
Marguerite loved to work in her large yard; she was especially fond of all her different palm tree species. She also loved to read and to watch political and news shows. She was a life long Southern Baptist and a member of First Baptist Church of Corpus Christi, attending regularly until her declining years.
Marguerite was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Bradford Harvey; sons, Richard Michael Harvey, Timothy Hicks Harvey and Matthew Bradford Harvey; daughter, Anabel D. Harvey and granddaughter, Rebecca Harvey.
She is survived by sons, Harold Stephen Harvey and wife Debbie Sue of San Marcos, Texas and Anthony Louis Harvey of Washington, D.C.; daughter Sarah Elizabeth Johnson of Irving, Texas; daughter-in-law, Barbara Harvey of Houston, Texas, eleven grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
The Family wishes to thank the staff of Avalon Care Center in Irving, Texas, for their loving care of Marguerite for the past five years.
A graveside service was held at Belmont Cemetery in Belmont, Texas, on Thursday, February 17, 2011. The Rev. Mark Newton of First Baptist Church in San Marcos officiate the service.
Buffington Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
