

Mr. Archie Joel Champion, age 95, of Greenbrier, TN, passed away Friday July 27, 2012. He was born October 5, 1916 in Winchester, Franklin County, TN. He has been an active member of the Lights Chapel Baptist Mission and Church since 1967. He was a retired carpenter, welder and a WW II infantry veteran who fought with the 121st Infantry, 8th Infantry Division in Europe in 1944-1945. He was the recipient of several campaign and decoration ribbons including the Bronze Star. He was the second child of eleven children born to the late Robert Wilson Champion and Evie Della Crossland Champion of Franklin County, TN. He is preceded in death by his wife, Annie Mae McElderry Champion; brothers William Russell, Marshall Robert, Ardie Willie, James Thomas, Allen Andrew and sister Aline Lucille Taylor. He is survived by brother Earl Edwin of Winchester, TN, and sisters Agnes Elizabeth Jordan of Memphis, TN, Bobbie Nell Boswell of Winchester, TN, and Mae Eva Boswell of Winchester, TN. He is survived by nine children; sons, John Eugene (Ginna) Walker (step-son) of Hixson, TN, Archie Joel Jr. (Myra) of Huntsville, AL, Robert Lee (Pamela) of Cedar Hill, TN, William Lynn (Crystal) of Chattanooga, TN, Thomas Wayne (Sandra) of Greenbrier, TN, and Jeffrey Andrew (Faye) of Mount Juliet, TN and daughters, Elizabeth Anne (Tony) Edwards of Marietta, GA, Rebecca Sue (Jim) Johnson of Greenbrier, TN, and Diana Carol (Jimmie) Frey of Greenbrier, TN. Mr. Champion has 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Visitation is from 5 PM to 8 PM Thursday, August 2nd at the Forest Lawn Funeral Home at 1150 Dickerson Road, Goodlettsville, TN. Funeral services will be 10 AM Friday, August 3rd at Forest Lawn Chapel with Rev. Bobby Swift.
