Born on September 23, 1942, to J.B. and Mildred (Coleman) Sawyer in Nashville, TN, Carol lived a life devoted to her husband, her daughters and their families, her work, her Christian faith, and to her extended family and friends.
Carol grew up in Nashville and was a graduate of Isaac Litton High School. After graduation, she went to work, married her high-school sweetheart Morris Lawson, and embarked upon a 30-year career as in customer service and office administration. Carol held several jobs at Purina, Castner Knott, J.C. Bradford, and eventually retired from Holley Carburetor. She took great pride in her work and enjoyed many friendships with her colleagues and fellow employees.
A member of the Goodlettsville Church of the Nazarene since 1971, Carol attended the Koinonia Sunday School Class. Faithful in Christian service, she served as the Missionary Society President, a money counter, in the choir, women’s ministry, and serving meals to fellow church members. Her faith in Christ was evident to those who knew and loved her.
Carol loved attending church with her friends. For the last 55 years, she cherished sharing the joy of life with them and with their families in a close-knit community of faith in Christ. Along with her husband, Morrris, and her daughters, Stephanie and Kim, they celebrated graduations, birthdays, weddings, funerals, and church activities in a large ‘extended family’ that now spans four generations. Carol’s friends brought her great gladness and extended their love and support to her all of her adult life.
Carol loved to camp with her family, garden and do yard work, and spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Known to her family as “Nana,’ she kept babies, shared moments of delight at every holiday and birthday, and attended every ballgame and school event where she took great pride cheering on her family.
In life, Carol took care of others. She cooked food for family gatherings and for church members in a time of need. During their elderly years, she cared for her parents and her husband’s mother, even sharing her home with them. Carol’s home was a welcoming place where kids and families and friends were welcome and she was much-loved in return. Her presence, hospitality, and many kindnesses will be missed by those who love her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Morris Lawson, her parents, J.B. and Mildred Sawyer, and her brother Carl Sawyer. She is survived by her daughters Stephanie Hoskins (Steve) and Kim Medley, her granddaughters Allison Hoskins, Hannah (Jared) Jones, and Maggie Medley, her great-grandchildren Jayla and Javen Jones, her nieces Karen Gore (John) and Letha Burns (Mike) and their families, and her sister-in-law Marcia Sawyer and her children Christy Sanderson, Brannon Sawyer (Allison) and their families.
Carol’s funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 8, 2026, at the Forest Lawn Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 1150 S. Dickerson Road, Goodlettsville, TN 37072. Burial will be immediately after the service at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, 1150 S. Dickerson Road, Goodlettsville, TN 37072.
