Born on February 16, 1945, Charles lived a life defined by service, strength, and deep devotion to his family and community.
A proud Army veteran, Charles served his country with honor during the Vietnam War. After returning home, he continued his life of service as a dedicated officer with the Metro Nashville Police Department, where he spent 36 years protecting and serving his community with integrity and compassion.
Charles was preceded in death by his father, Leon Spain; mother, June Spain; and sister, Ann Spain. He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Spain; his son, Jason Spain; his daughter, Susie Gaines; his cherished granddaughter, Serafina Gaines; and his brother, Jack Spain. He also leaves behind many extended family members, friends, and former colleagues who were touched by his kindness, loyalty, and unwavering sense of duty. He will be especially missed by his loyal dog, Bean.
Charles’s legacy of service and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
