Gary Randal Chadwell, known as “Big Al” in his younger days living in North Nashville, went to be with the Lord on December 27, 2020. Gary was born on July 30, 1945, in Nashville, TN and was very proud of his Nashville roots. He spent 42 years of his life working for Metro Nashville and retired from the maintenance department of the Metro Municipal Auditorium in 2006.
Gary loved sports, particularly football and baseball. He coached Little League for both his sons’ teams when they were younger. As the boys grew older, they enjoyed watching professional games as a family. Gary was an avid Titans, Braves, and Commodores fan, and made sure to be in his favorite chair on gameday.
Gary also enjoyed fishing and handyman projects. He could frequently be found outside in his barn working on projects, listening to music, and enjoying his man cave. He was a film and music enthusiast and had an extensive assortment of DVDs and records he shared with family and friends.
Gary was very generous when it came to his family and friends and was known for his sense of humor. He made time for those he loved and was especially excited to become “Grandad” in 2015. He was proud of his family, what his sons have accomplished, and loved his wife, Rebecca, with all his heart.
He will be sorely missed and survived by his wife, Rebecca Chadwell; son Charles (Jodi) Chadwell; son Phillip (Kandice) Chadwell; grandchildren Leo Chadwell and Anna Chadwell; sisters Louise Greinke and Shirley (Danny) Barnes; as well as his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Ruth Chadwell, his brother William Chadwell, and his sister Carolyn Roberts.
