Maxine George

The treasured Maxine Rooker George “Nanny” of Whites Creek, TN went home to be with the Lord on August 1, 2024. She was born on April 15, 1932, in Limestone County, Alabama, to the late Robert Lee and Mary Elizabeth Rooker. She had 11 brothers and sisters and was the last surviving sibling. She married the love of her life, Melvin Glen George, on August 14, 1949 and moved to Nashville, where they raised their three children and owned several businesses over the years. Maxine and Melvin were first members of Whites Creek Church of the Nazarene, where she humbly served in many capacities, including Church Treasurer for over 50 years.

Maxine loved to travel and was proud that she had visited all 50 states, and through outreach and mission work, she shared her passion for the Lord across Africa, Honduras and Thailand.

Her heart for people was enormous, and she gave generously of her prayers, time, and finances. She was always there to listen and offer encouragement, words of wisdom and a Bible story or two. She made the best biscuits and gravy, her chocolate gravy was a delicious treat and you could always count on a glass of her good ole sweet tea. She loved flowers, was a talented artist and adored her loyal dog Beaucephus (Beau).

Maxine was welcomed into heaven by her parents, siblings, her beloved daughter Glenda George Wyer, husband of 67 years Melvin Glen George, and son-in-law Allan Wyer.

She is survived by her dear children, son Jeffery George (JoAnn), and daughter Robin Dorris (Timmy), grandchildren,Traci Cunningham Brown, Staci Cunningham Walling, Brandy George, Chad George, Wesley Farmer, Ethan Farmer (Haleigh), great-grandchildren Krystal Layne (Andrew), William S Fuller, Ben Walling, Abigail Johnson, Chad Lee George, Harley Farmer, Emma-Leigh Farmer, and great-great-grandchildren Sawyer and Sutton Layne. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and others that she loved dearly.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 6th 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Wednesday, August 7th 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Forest Lawn Funeral Home (1150 Dickerson Rd, Goodlettsville, TN 37072). A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 7th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the same location. A burial will be held on Wednesday, August 7th 2024 at the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens (1150 Dickerson Rd, Goodlettsville, TN 37072).
