

Robert Albert Thompson, age 89, passed away on January 29, 2014. Born in Mt. Juliet, TN on March 27, 1924 to Robert and Odis Boner Thompson. He was a member of the “Greatest Generation” serving in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He retired from Neuhoff Packing Co. and Aladdin Industries. He touched many boys lives during his 18 years of coaching baseball in the East Nashville parks. He was a 50+ year member of 11th Street Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Mattie Lening, Neva Hammonds, Juanita Thomas and brother, Charles Thompson.
He is survived by his devoted, loving wife of 65 years, Katherine Shemwell Thompson, children, Vickie Cothern (Bill), Richard “Bubba” Thompson (Becky), Judy Stephens (Roger) and Terry Thompson. Sisters, Corrine Belcher (Bob), Pat Davenport. Brothers, Ray, Travis, Lee (Evone), Louis (Wilma), James (Sue), Shirley “Bobo” (Neicie), 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, devoted friends, Gene and Opal Harper and his faithful dog, Dixie.
Special thanks to Dr. Chris Connelly, Dr. Michael Olive, the nurses and staff at Vanco, CareSouth, Skyline Hospital and Alive Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, his request was to donate to the Church of Christ relief fund.
