He is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Shumate; father, William Thomas Mires; brother, Kenneth Draper; and sister, Tami Cornelious.
Tommy was a master carpenter for forty years, helping to build houses and working independently. He achieved many goals over the course of his life, including purchasing his home he greatly cared for over the years. He spent much of his time in his yard tending to his flowers and landscaping - and wasn't afraid to brag about it! He loved classic cars and trucks, taking pride in his own trucks by putting hours into cleaning and maintaining them.
Tommy also was an avid dog lover. His dogs MayMay and Sissy, then later in life Dottie and LuLu, were his constant loving companions. He loved to fish and was overwhelmed with joy when his twin brother Timmy bought land that included a stocked pond full of fish. Tommy would spend hours trying to catch the most and the biggest fish.
Tommy wasn't a big sportsman, but he could play pool like a pro. He would often bet he was the better player against his opponents. He also loved music and was even able to teach himself how to play the guitar.
Tommy was blessed with one son, one grandson, five brothers, four sisters, and was the twin brother of Timmy Mires. Timmy became more than a brother to Tommy. He became his caregiver, his chauffeur, his picking up the tab, his best friend, and his hero.
Tommy was baptised on February 2, 2025, and accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior. What once was Rock-n-Roll Music became K-Love Christian Music
He is survived by his step-father, Steve Shumate; son, Thomas Cody Mires; grandson, Bentley Mires; brothers and sisters; David Draper, Deborah (Edward) Ayers, Ronna (William) Hodge, Donnie (Shannon) Draper, Timmy (Dana) Mires, Arthur Cunningham, Shenah (Doug) Mangrum; and multiple aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
