Born on September 26, 1941 in Denver, Colorado, to Rea and Esther Williams, Marita carried a lifelong love of learning and teaching. She graduated from the University of Wyoming with a degree in education and, though her career path took her through various roles, she never stopped teaching - sharing her knowledge, kindness, and wisdom with everyone she met.
Marita met the love of her life, Gordon, in Goodland, Kansas. They married in April 1965 and together raised three sons. She found joy in the simple things - sewing, baking (bread especially), cooking, and classical music - and left her mark through thoughtful gestures, fierce compassion, and her warm, spirited presence.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Gordon, and their two sons, Todd (Vicki) Birkholtz and Tyler (Erica) Birkholtz both of Phoenix, Arizona, along with five cherished grandchildren; Aubrey Birkholtz, Austin (Laura) Birkholtz, Jackson (Valerie) Birkholtz, Tucker Birkholtz, Ivy Birkholtz. Marita was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved son, Bradley Wayne Birkholtz. She loved each of them deeply and unconditionally.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project. A celebration of life will be held at a later date and shared here once arrangements are finalized.
