He was born in Greenville, South Carolina, his family moved to Orlando in the 1950's. With only a 6th grade education, he left school to help support his family by working in the fields and then as a young teen working in construction.
In 1961 he married Carolyn Kelley and together they had 4 children. Later he would go on to start his own construction company with his 2 sons, Gable Builders Inc.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn and 4 children: Donna Sue, Richard, Tonja Kellom, Jeff; 10 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and one brother, Iber Gene. He was a loving husband and dad who enjoyed fishing and hunting but most of all, spending time with his family. He is and will be forever missed.

Although they were not members of my church (next door to their house) they were God-loving people.
Mr. Corky & Ms. Carole loved their family very much. I'd like to tell ya'll a story about how Mr. Corky & Ms. Carole met. One sunny day in June 1960, Ms. Carole was riding her bike up Wurst Rd to her sister's house. Mr. Corky and his brother Gene were headed to Bullington's store for a soda pop. They stopped and ask Ms. Carole what was her name and how old she was and then they went on their way. Mr. Corky said to his brother Gene, I'm gonna marry that little girl and sure enough in December 1961 (she was 16) they got married and started a family, 2 boys and 2 girls that they loved more than life.
Mr. Corky worked in construction for 50 years, he owned his own company the last 30 years. Mr. Corky loved to hunt and he loved his dogs almost as much as he loved his kids. Mr. Corky and his 2 sons and 1 daughter was members of a hunting lease in Georgia and every hunting season they would load up themselves and all the hunting dogs and head to Georgia, sometimes for 2 weeks at a time, oh how he loved to hear his dogs run.
We were blessed with 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. We have lots of family and friends and we are so blessed for every one of them. In December 2023, we will have been married 62 wonderful years.

My Dad, through my eye's. Dad was incredibly strong and caring. He was a very giving man, he help friends and family along the way without sacrificing his own family. Dad worked hard his entire life, he wanted more for us than he had had as a child. He was our family's ROCK and my everything and in my eye's he did no wrong. Times weren't always easy but he always made sure mom and us had what we needed.
In 1974, I was 9 years old, I remember Dad flying to Iran for work, there he would teach the Iranians how to build storefronts. Dad would tell us stories of how the women would wash their clothes on the side of a mountain as the snow melted. I'm guessing our only communication was through the mail. It seemed like Dad was gone forever. We finally received a small audio tape in the mail. As we patiently listened to the tape, Dad spoke to each of us, after that Mom told Dad not to send any more tapes because Jeff cried for a solid week.
In 1977 we all moved to Houston Texas, yes! again for work, we were only there for a year and a half, that was the beginning of Dad's success in the Construction business. Eventually, his two sons would join him and together they were known as Gable Builders LLC, specializing in custom homes. Dad was so proud of the life he and mom together had built for our family. Dad was very passionate about deer hunting, for as long as I can remember we would all load up in "old blue" and go hunting, every hunting season and every year, Dad loved to hear his dogs run, he loved the outdoors, it was a part of him. He also loved to sit on his back porch swing, he loved watching his cattle grazing in the pasture behind his house. He was living his best life, his dream, with his family right beside him. No one is perfect but Dad was as close to being the most perfect Dad anyone could have.
I am humbled by Mom's strength over the past several days and her ability to focus on the amazing life she shared with my dad. Dad looked over his family here on earth his entire life, now it's his time to rest.
Your family loves you very much Dad and we are beyond grateful that god chose you to be our Dad.
Love forever and always,
