It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Burton Lawrence Lieberman, affectionately known by his grandchildren as “Puppy,” who passed away peacefully on May 15, 2026, at the age of 100 years and 3 months.
Born in 1926 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he was preceded in death by his parents, Manny and Dina (Rogow) Lieberman; his wife, Barbara (Bluestone d. 2003); and his sisters, Greta Katz and Marilyn Schwartz.
Burton proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters. He loved sharing stories from his year in Japan, where he was assigned to “light duty” as an entertainer for the troops.
He spent much of his career in sales and continued working well into his later years, driven by his genuine love for staying active and connecting with others. A consummate storyteller, he could strike up a conversation with anyone, making everyone feel comfortable and included. He was a true gentleman and a mensch—kind-hearted, generous, honorable, humble, and deeply respected. He lived with eternal optimism and found great joy in life's simple pleasures.
To Burton, every day was an adventure. He preferred the path less traveled, embracing every new experience with curiosity and enthusiasm. He just had a presence that was special; he was loved by everyone who met him. We were privileged to have had him in our lives.
He is survived by his children, Judith Foner, Marc Lieberman, Howard Lieberman, and Sharon Cudaback; his grandchildren, Eli Foner (Katheryn), Samuel Foner (Frances), Max Foner (Tiffany), Neila Lieberman, and Jaime Lieberman; and his great-grandchildren, Natalie Winland and Ethan Winland
