

C.L. was born January 2, 1921, to the late Samuel Dowell and Sudie Pearl Cross McQueen in Johnson City, TN. His job with Sterchi Brother’s Furniture brought him and his family to Orlando in 1951. He continued his career with Sterchi’s where he retired as a warehouse manager after forty-three years of service.
He was a long-time member of Woodhaven Baptist Church, Orlando, and most recently attended Scottsmoor Freewill Baptist Church of Mims until his declining health prevented him from doing so.
He has been joyfully reunited with his daughter, Mary Drucille Bounds, who passed away December 26, 2006. In addition to his daughter and his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters; Margaret Jones, Lena Mae Miller, Thelma Sluder, Evelyn Bowman and Joyce Hodge; and an infant brother, Samuel Dowell McQueen, Jr.
Left behind to celebrate his life and mourn their loss are his loving wife of seventy-two years, Amanda Ella Mae Wishon McQueen; his son, Cecil Lee “Shorty” McQueen, Jr., of Deland; one sister, Permelia Miller, Johnson City, TN; one brother, Joseph McQueen, Jonesborough, TN; six grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; one sister-in-law, Lena (Lee) Davis, Orlando; and his huge family of friends.
The funeral service will be held at 1 P.M., Thursday, March 28, 2013, at Woodhaven Baptist Church, 3035 W. 36th Street, Orlando, with the Rev. Scott Patz officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to services. Internment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Gotha, Florida.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons and great-grandsons: Charles Allen, Gregg, Shannon and Brandon Bounds, Jason McQueen, and John and Nick Pearce.
A memorial service at Scottsmoor Freewill Baptist Church, Mims, will be planned for a later date.
