He was born on June 21, 1927 in Troy, New York to the late Frank A. Heacock & Grace (Calhoun) Heacock.
Adventuresome and exacting in all he did, Douglas graduated from Princeton University, humbly served his country in the U.S. Navy Reserves, and then excelled in his aerospace engineering career, most notably participating in building the lens for and later launching the Hubbel Space Telescope. In his free time, he loved to sail and to travel; cruising all around the world, and especially valuing his time in Hawaii, and exploring his Scottish heritage.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Theresa A Heacock.
Douglas is survived by his children, Holly H. Nice (Charles T. Nice) and Nils Lundgren (Cindy Lundgren); grandchildren, Adam N. Pawlak (Eryka Pawlak), Nathan C. Pawlak, Jennylynn Thibodeau (Scott Thibodeau), Danielle Care (Brian Care), Nicole Levesque (David Levesque) and Bjorn Ferdinand; and great grandchildren, Logan J. Pawlak, Paul Quigley, Paige Lamore, Mariana Karampasis and Antoni Karampasis.
The family invites you to join them on Saturday, August 24 at Woodlawn Funeral Home in Gotha, Florida for Viewing 1:30-3:00pm and a Celebration of Life at 3:00pm with entombment to immediately follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
