Elawattee Setaram (Ida) was born on December 23, 1937 at Wellington Park, Berbice, Guyana (then British Guiana) to Mohabir and Jasodra Gangadeen. On February 28, 1955 she got married to Chetram Setaram. Together they produced eight children, who survive her, Keshav Setaram, Indira Lalak, Raj Setaram, Vid Setaram, Devindra Setaram, Dinesh Setaram, Dharmendra Setaram, and Mahendra Setaram and the following grandchildren: Greg and Mike Lalak, Jay and Tyneil Setaram, Anjali Setaram, Sanjay and Vishal Setaram, Damien Setaram, Luke and Dylan Setaram and her 3 great grandchildren.
In January 1972, Ida and her husband Chet moved from Guyana to Orlando. In addition to raising her kids, who were all very young at that time, Ida worked a few jobs until 1972 when she found a job as a tailor at the Orlando Naval Training Center in Orlando in 1974. She worked there for approximately 24 years, until the base was closed. She received many commendations for her outstanding work at the Base. In the 70’s, 80’s and much of the 90’s the base was a vibrant place to be at, and she made many friends there.
Another of Ida's loves was the West Orange Seniors where she was a member. She enjoyed Monday bingo, trips to the casinos and theatre performances. The planning for the overnight trips was fun to watch her prepare for. The tags were on the suitcase a week before the event. She spoke consistently of the fellow seniors with great affection and I truly believed it changed her life for the best.
