Her birth name was Georgina Teresa Kolbeck, born February 27, 1934 in Munich, Germany, she was named after her mother but we knew her as mom, Meisi (A nickname she has had all her life), Gina, Mu, Ma, her grandchildren gave her new nicknames like “ crazy old lazy”, “big perm”, and called her Omi (German for grandmother). Omi is the name we would all use more than anything. Her nieces and nephews called her Tante Meisi. She was a wife to Walter Hahn for more than 56 years; they were married on Christmas Eve 1954 in Munich, Germany.
She has 3 children Ellen, Eric “Ricky” who passed away September 11, 2007 and her second daughter Evelyn. She had 3 sisters and 1 brother, Bobby, Martha and Charlie who all have passed, and a sister Elizabeth (Liz), her father passed away during WWII. He was a Pharmacist for the German Red Cross and her mother was a Hausfrau and passed away just short of her 79th birthday. During her teen years she went to school to become a Hat Maker but had to leave school because she was allergic to the glue. She then started to work at a large bookbinder factory in Munich, Germany. This is where she met the man she would later marry. Meisi/Mom’s passion was cooking. You will never find a better baker than she was. She would get up at 3 in the morning for several weeks to start baking Christmas cookies, breads and her famous Prinzregenten Torte. How we will all miss that! No one can come close to her cooking, she was self-taught. She would spend hours looking at cookbooks finding new recipes and testing them on us. She once made a roasted leg of Lamb from a show she would watch called “The Galloping Gourmet”, let just say our dog Butch had a great meal. In her later years she would spend many hours watching The Food Network or any cooking show and she loved to watch Golf on the TV. She came to the United States in 1956 with her husband and 6 month old daughter Ellen. They moved to Detroit, Michigan. She had to learn the English language by watching the T.V. and reading recipes. By 1961 she had two more children Ricky and Evey. In 1966 the whole family packed their bags and headed back to Germany and lived there for 3 years, built a house in Poing, Germany and started a bookbinding business. After that they moved back to the U.S. to Livonia then Southfield, Michigan. Here she and Walt started a new bookbinding company called Hahn & Son. While living in Southfield, Mom would always have a vegetable garden of some sort and did a lot of canning. She would take Rick and Ellen by car on their newspaper route when it was too cold or rainy. She loved spending time with Evey going to the malls or grocery shopping. In 1978 the business and family moved to sunny Boca Raton, Florida. During this time she became a proud grandmother to 3 boys; Ryan, Marc, and Nick. The family would make one more big move and that was to the Orlando area. She loved her house in Windermere, were she could look out to the lake and swim or we should say “skinny dipping” in the pool every morning. She got caught a few times in the pool as Hot Air Balloons would fly over the house. Whenever there was a gathering of friends and family everyone went home happy and had a full stomach. She became a grandmother one more time to a little girl names Taylor. She loved to spend time watching her grandchildren play soccer, baseball, hockey and cheerleading. She loved her grandchildren dearly; they are her pride and joy. During her life she had many pets but was never more attached to Jake (Ricky’s dog) and when Jake passed she took it very hard, she then got very attached to Jaeger (Marc’s dog) who was by her side every day until she went into the hospital in May. Mom and Dad with family traveled all over the United States including Hawaii and all over Europe. Before leaving Germany in 1969 the whole family traveled Europe in a 911 Porsche, that’s 3 kids, 2 adults and a very small trunk. In England she had to navigate for Dad as he was driving on the wrong side of the road, she was his look-out gal. The last few years of her life she had to deal with many health problems and she succumbed to them on August 9, 2011. She is survived by her husband Walter, daughters; Ellen and Evey, and her son-in-law; Paul, her grandchildren; Ryan, Marc, Nick and Taylor, her sister; Liz, several in-laws and nieces and nephews.

Do not stand at my grace and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blows.
I am the diamond glimpse of snow,
I am the sunlight on the ripen greens,
I am the gentle autumn rains.
Do not stand at my grace and cry.
I am not there, I did not die.
