To the family & friends of Harry Moore I extend my love and condolences to the memory of knowing this fine gentleman growing up in Winfield WV. Harry was always a happy and uplifting friend. Always smiling and quite a practical joker! I am saddened to learn of his passing but so very honored to have been a friend to Harry.

Mr Moore has been coming to Perkins for almost twenty years, I have grown to know and Love him dearly. He would order his El humongo omelet, or his old peoples meal (thats what he called it because it was on the senior menu) and he would call my famous grits, wall paper paste, exspecially when the spoon would stand straight up in the bowl, he would say,"yup, their just right"  Sunday mornings will not be the same without Harry sitting with his good friends, the Evers, in my station. Mr. Moore, you know how a person meets a select few people in their lifetime who affect them in such a way that they will never be forgotten.  Well, you were one of those select few great people.  I will never forget you.  You were a great mentor, teacher, and friend.  I am such a lucky person to have spent 4 years with you.

I am also so very happy that I was able to visit you in your classroom on March 14, 2012.  If I had not , I would be much sadder right now.  I am sad that I will not be able to hear another one of your sarcastic remarks about my major, or advice about life and the world.

When I think about you, several things are very prominent.  One is the fear I felt when I first met you 4 years ago and thought "Whoa, that's my Fizzix teacher!?"  Another is your awesome humor and way of incorporating fun into learning.  I was never a big fan of Fizzix, I just kept taking your class because of you, until I couldn't anymore.  I remember when you came to my house for Thanksgiving dinner.  That was a fun day!  Another great memory is when you took me to the Catfish Place for my birthday, and we spent a good 2 hours chatting.  I plan on visiting again as a way of remembering you.

Another fun memory happened last summer, when me and Ramon helped you sort all those new science books and tagged them for two or three days in a row.  When we were done you treated us for lunch!

And last of all, I remember the hug you gave me the last time I saw you.  It was one of those great hugs of yours.  You hadn't liked our first hug because I was too short to hug you properly, and made me sit on a table.  Then after the second hug you told me you loved me, and I told you I loved you too.  I am so glad to know that I made an impression on you too, that you cared for me.  You were indeed a 'gentle giant.'

I hope the afterlife is everything you had hoped it was.  I will sorely miss you, and never forget your kindness and compassion.  If I can make half the difference in people's lives that you made, I will consider my life a success.

Mr. Moore would never quit. If you didn't understand something and WANTED it understood, he would work with you for as much time as you wanted to spend on it. He never quit on his students. I took Physics honors and got a tough B, he put me into Physics II honors on his own a few semesters later. After having a 54 F in the class the first two weeks or so, I tried to get his permission to switch out to something easier. He wouldn't let me and told me that I could do it, I just needed to be less focused on the answer, but focus on how to get there. I finished that class with an A. He sung to me at the end of the year with a song he made up called, "I told you so." Too great.

Harry was an excellent human being and teacher. It was an honor to meet Harry.  My prayers go out to his family.

  I was colleague of 12 years with Harry at OHS, 6 of them next door in the 1500 building. It is so very depressing to learn of his premature fatality. When I first started, my young grade school age sons would come with me while setting up my classroom before the school year began. Bored in my room, they ventured next door. He put them to work decorating his bulletin boards (which stayed up for 10 years!). Being that my maiden name was Moore, he soon became a close friend and uncle. Loved for his charisma, humor, and illuminating impact of the youth for many decades, he is a hero. We will miss you. RIP, Dianne (Moore), Seth, Tim and Andy Green.

Mr. Moore was an amazing teacher. I'm not sure whether it was his sarcasm or crazy labs and ideas that made him such an interesting person. I do know he is the inspiration for many students and the reason students are into the sciences at our school. He will be dearly missed and it was unfortunate for him to have to leave this world so early. He has touched so many students emotionally and will continue to do so even after he has gone. I am sorry for your loss. It probably won't but please let it comfort you that he lives through many of the students that he taught and he accomplished so much in his life. Just knowing Harry Moore has been an adventure. It's been a privilege to call him a friend and colleague and amazing to see how he influenced my own children as students in his class.  Harry is a vital part of our OHS family and he is greatly missed.

Mr. Moore made me feel important and smart and capable in a subject that I was intimidated by and insecure with during the time in our lives when we are just discovering who we are. Because of his lighthearted approach to physics (of all subjects!), he gave me the confidence in myself as an adolesence that has carried through into my adult life. In the early 80s, it was scary at first being the only girl in an AP Physics class, yet he empowered me, accepted me, encouraged me. All the great things a great teacher does. I will always remember Mr. Moore, his VW bus and him as Beaker from the Muppets. I am truly saddened. I can still see him in my mind's eye drawing the neutrons and electrons on the chalkboard...wow.. Whenever I doubt my abilities as an adult, I recall my class with him...and think "I am smart, I am capable. Mr. Moore said so." God bless you, Harry. You and your family. He was a great and true definition of the profession "teacher" - I wish every high school student could have experienced physics with him. HE TOOK THE FEAR OUT OF PHYSICS and was compassionate with those who wanted to learn. He will always be a favorite memory of my life. I did not know Mr. Moore that well but I saw, as a teacher at OHS, from a distance, how effectively he touched the lives of the OHS students. I appreciated the way he welcomed me to OHS as a 1st year teacher. He was a humble man who loved teaching. My thoughtful prayers to his family.

I knew after taking your class I had to stick to English or Marketing, but I enjoyed trying to learn chemistry with you so much.  I am certain you are in Heaven and pray you didn't suffer. Harry was one of the finest people I've ever known.  Like many of us, I had the privilege of being Mr. Moore's student.  But what I will miss most is the close friendship we sustained after I graduated in 1999.  Whether I was living in Kissimmee or just visiting on occasion, we always enjoyed hours-long lunches at the Catfish Place discussing religion, politics, science, education, travel, family, and the changes in our lives.  I will never forget what a loving and generous friend he was.

On my bookshelf, I count at least a half dozen that Harry gave me over the years.  As much as I valued reading them, I treasured our conversations about them even more.  The book I cherish the most is "The Prophet" by Kahlil Gibran, which Mr. Moore gave me as a graduation gift.  My bride and I chose an excerpt from that book to be read at our wedding last summer.  Now I am drawn to the poem on death in "The Prophet" -- a text I have turned to over the years when I lost people I loved.

This spring, students and colleagues should have been gathering to salute a beloved teacher and friend and congratulate him on a remarkable 35-year career as he began his retirement.  After all, there were more books to read, antique clocks to collect, model trains to build, cats to nurture, and native Florida plants to tend.  Instead, we are gathering to say goodbye.  Such a tragic loss -- a beautiful life ended too soon.

Lillian, Jean, Brent, and family, my deepest sympathies to each of you.

You were there for my siblings, you changed their lives and you influenced mine through them. They would tell me all the stories and jokes you would tell them during class. Everyday I would pass by your classroom before my next class if i was free. I was extremely excited to have you as a teacher. You will be truly missed, you were one of the greatest and most dedicated teachers I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Mr. Moore, I just want you to know that you were such a special teacher. The first day we met I knew there was something in particular you had that no one else had. Every single day you taught in class, I admired you so much. You were such an intelligent and bright man. I always thought of you to be some famous doctor because of how much you knew. To the family of Mr. Moore, be proud of him. He did SO many great things for many people. I am pleased to say I was able to see him the Friday before he passed away. He had just filled out a recommendation letter for me. Thank you to his parents for raising such a prominent man in this world.

Mr. Moore had a tremendous influence on my life.  It was his sense of humor I will miss most.

As a teacher Mr.Moore was the greatest, inspiring, entertaining and he always showed that he had faith in you. Okay, and maybe he was extra popular because he fed us brain food (m&ms), used cartoons to teach physics and had a great sense of humor....who can forget the firetruck speech? "The only word you should ever say in my class that starts with an F and ends in uck is firetruck." Or the ice banana bread on Einstein's Birthday?

As a colleague Mr.Moore was the gold standard, someone to be admired and emulated.

I have no doubt that Mr.Moore has shaped who I am and has directly influenced my approach to the classroom. He was someone to be admired and loved and for that reason and so many more he will greatly be missed.

Never mind the financial titans of Wall Street or the dot.com billionaires who reap so many rewards. Men and women like Mr. Harry Lee Moore are the true heroes of society. They work tirelessly, with great skill and dedication. They are often unknown to the world at large, but deeply loved by the thousands of young minds they influence and elevate. Thank you for your service Mr. Moore. You have contributed greatly to our lives and we will never forget you.

It is hard to capture in words how wonderful of a man Mr.Moore was. I don't think there are enough words to express his kindness, heart, humor, intellect, and compassion. Mr.Moore made love science again. He made me want to take his classes. I can't begin to imagine the reaction of his family as I feel heartbroken and I've only known him for two far too short years. My condolences and prayers go out to his family during this time. Thank you for sharing such an incredible person with all of us. Mr.Moore changed my life, and his loss leaves a void that can't be filled.

It was my privilege to be Harry's boss for three years at Osceola High School.  He not only set an example for the students, but for the staff as well.  He made coming to work fun and interesting each day.  I tried to keep up with him on the different style of ties he wore to work each day throughout the school year, as well as our similar hair styles!    He had a great passion for teaching and helping students be the best that they could be.  He was a great friend and will be missed by all.
 
He came to my husband's outdoor surprise birthday party and it poured.  When we got back to the house he emerged from the bathroom in clean, dry, clothes.  He told us he always had an extra change of clothes in his car because, "you never knew when it is going to rain!!"  He knew that when he came to our home he was the only guest who had permission to arrive up to an hour early!  He always had a hug for me whenever I saw him!

There aren't words to describe the impact that my "Physics Coach" had on myself and on countless other students and members of our community.  This man's compassion for others is a rarity in itself.  There are too few honestly good people anymore and it's never fair when one is taken from us.  Thanks for everything you've ever done Coach Moore.

I truly loved Mr. Moore. He was one of my favorite teachers as OHS. He will always be on my mind forever

Mr.Moore was an amazing teacher with so many admirable qualities. He always took the time to create friendships with his students. He would always joke around and say he was immortal and he was right! Although he is not immortal physically, he will always be in our hearts. He will truly be missed and is loved.

Mr. Moore was one of the greatest teachers I ever had the pleasure of knowing. He was the only teacher I was ever a TA for, and going into his classroom always made every day more interesting. Although I may not remember specific things about the subject of "Fizzix" anymore, I will never forget the infamous "purple unit monster", Einstein t-shirts for his AP class, inspiring experiments, daily 'hacky-sack' games, and so much more. He was truly an inspiration to us all. Mr. Moore was honestly one of those people you could tell your friends about even for years after leaving high school, and he'd still remember you if you ever came back to visit him. 
Mr. Moore, I'll never be a 'lab slave' for anyone again...no other experience could ever compare. Rest in peace, and don't forget to send down all the secrets of the Universe after hanging out with your old buddies, Einstein and Newton. We love you.

This was terrible news to wake up to, I could not believe it when I heard it. Mr Moore used to joke as he was doing something dangerous (such as sticking his hand into electricity) that he was immortal, lived for over a thousand years, and nothing could hurt him nor could he die... He was right, he never will, Mr Moore will forever have an impact on every person that ever had the blessing of meeting him or having his class. He will live forever in the memories of thousands, and his lasting legacy at OHS. A thousand years is not enough, he still died far too young, wish I could hear him serenade happy birthday in person just one more time, or make a joke about being tall. God Bless. Our hearts go out not only to Harry's family but to all of us who knew and loved him.  He was more than a teacher to our son.  He was a friend and mentor,  tough but tender, with whom we stayed in touch for over 10 years.  Our chance encounters with him at Publix were always full of laughter and good wishes.  He is in God's hands now but will always be in our memory.

I never had the pleasure of being one of Mr. Moore's students but had the blessing of being a colleague for the past 9 years. The students all loved your classes and always spoke with excitement when they came to me about some lab you did in class. Mr Moore taught 6 members of our family, including myself, and my husband. We all have many memories and stories from our days in his classroom. Our deepest condolences got out to his family. His presence in the community will be greatly missed.

To the Moore Family: I'm truly sorry for your loss. Mr. Moore was a great teacher and he touched the lives of many. Just know that he's always be here in spirit and that you'll see him again one day ^_^ Your in my prayers always and if you ever need anything, you have all the students at Osceola High School to lend a hand.

I want to express my deepest sympathies to the family of Mr. Moore. He taught me Chemistry in 1981. I know you all will miss him so very much. I pray you are comforted in knowing he contributed to so many young people's lives and gave them the gift of his knowledge. It was a life well lived and now he rests. May God carry you all through this difficult time.

Sorry for your loss, mr. Moore was a great teacher, he cared about his students and kept in touch with them to see how they were progressing even after HS.  He will be missed..RIP Mr. Moore

Mr Moore had my son Rick in his class 17 yrs ago and this year had my grandson Josh. They both have said Mr Moore was their favorite teacher. So thankful, I saw Mr Moore a few weeks ago and told him, how much this family loved and appreciated him.
