

Chief Master Sergeant Herman Stewart Welch Jr. passed away peacefully on August 11, 2012 after a battle with B-Cell Leukemia. Born in Hopewell, Virginia, attended Hopewell High School and Virginia Tech, and served in the United States Air Force for 30 years. He began his service during World War II when the Air Force was still the Army Air Corp.
CMSgt Welch received many awards during his service which includes, The Bronze Star Medal for his extraordinary courage working under hostile and dangerous conditions in Ton Son Nhut AFBm Vietnam; The Air Force Commendation Medal for the driving force behind numerous successful accomplishment of the Wire Section, Yokota AFB, Japan; and The Meritorious Service Medal for outstanding knowledge in the communication field and building construction while in HQ CENEUR, Germany. Herman Stewart Welch Jr.; One of the few remaining members of the greatest generation that this country owes a great debt goes to his final rest.
HIs passion was remote controlled airplanes and classic cars.
Survived by his wife Edith; Sister: Virginia Barnes; Sons: Kip and Craig; Daughters: Kitt, Maria and Jannette; Grandsons: Skip, Sean, Joseph, Evan, and Scott; Granddaughters: Krista, Kathryne, Maya, and Nikki; and Great-Granddaughters: Dovie and Olivia
