Olga Ileane Jones (nee Layne) was born in New York on January 18th, 1923 and left this mortal plain on Friday, September 25th, 2015. She is now with her God and is reunited with loved ones long departed.
On Monday, August 9th, 1943 she and Emerson Llewellyn Jones were united in matrimony at St. Martins Chapel Episcopal Church located in Brooklyn, NY and Queens, NY. They continued to live in Brooklyn for a number of years and remained residents of NY until their eventual relocation to Florida.
Ileane and her husband Emerson loved travel and entertainment. They frequently travelled in groups who had similar travel tastes and were frequently seen with Jack Gibson who was better known as Jack The Rapper, a very popular DJ in his time. Indeed, photos of them taken during these social activities show them in a spirit of total enjoyment.
They had many friends but as the years progressed more and more friends departed this world to be with the Lord. Here in Florida where they spent their declining years one friend, Alice Gray, was a great comfort to them. Alice attended many functions at their home and joined them in many card parties. They loved to play bridge. Eventually, due to the continuing debilitation of her health as a result of Parkinson’s and other health issues, her husband Emerson had to make sure of her continuing care by placing her in a nursing home. The nursing home, Hunters Creek Nursing and Rehab Center was her residence until the time of her death at Dr. Phillips hospital. During her entire stay there, her friend Alice continued to be a faithful visitor and a loyal friend. She could not ask for a better friend. Thank you Alice for your faithfulness and loyalty.
Her stay in the nursing home was also made more comfortable by the almost daily visits of her nephew, Julian Jones. He never forgot her and was always interested in her care. I am sure that even as she lost much of her memory, and as her body weakened, she still looked forward to Julian bringing her a banana or some other treat. He was truly devoted to her, and I am sure that as she is now with the ancestors she is smiling in thankfulness for his constant presence.
Ileane leaves behind her beloved husband Emerson, her devoted nephew Julian, a daughter Sheila Vasser, and many other relatives. I am confident that they are comforted in knowing that she had a full, long, and joy-filled life and that she is now no longer subject to the pains and anxieties that come as a part of our mortal existence.
Relatives of her husband with whom she was always close extend to Ileane’s immediate relatives their condolencs for their loss. Novalene Lovell (nee Farmer), members of the Howell, Hinckson, Dunn, Morrison, Ashby, and Prescod families all remember her fondly and are grateful for her presence in their lives. My grandmother, Rosaline Sinclair Morrison (whom she used to call aunt) was especially fond of her. I believe that she greeted her warmly as she entered the eternal kingdom.
As someone with whom she visited a number of times before her body reached the point where she could no longer sustain a drive of over 100 miles, I shall miss her infectious smile. Aunt Ileane was always kind and thoughtful to me. When my cousin Emerson (who, I refer affectionately to as uncle) first introduced us back in 1961, I felt an immediate warmth towards her. When she began to decline, my mother, Elsa Prescod (daughter of Rosaline Sinclair Morrison and first cousin to Emerson who she considered her brother) admonished me that as a resident in Florida I continue to be always available to uncle SonSon (my mother’s name for Emerson) and aunt Ileane. I am hopeful that now that aunt Ileane is now also with my mother in heaven that she can report to her that I did.
Aunt Ileane, I am grateful for your presence in my life and in my family’s life. The boys (as you used to refer to my sons) and my wife Ina are sad at your leaving, but also rejoice in the knowledge that you are now with your Lord and Savior. We all miss you, but we know that this goodbye is temporary and that we will see each other again. May your spirit now rest in heavenly peace.
O,Rest eternal grant unto her, O Lord; and may light perpetual shine upon her.
