Ingrid was born on January 16, 1951 in Georgetown, Guyana to Irene ‘Elsie’ Francis and Alexander Urquhart. She grew up in Guyana surrounded by many sisters and brothers. Later at the age of 17 she made the brave decision to move to America — New York to be exact. This decision paid off as the following year she met her husband Knowland and married in 1974 . These two were side by side ever since. Together they created a loving family and had three kids — Nolan, Dwayne, and Candice. After getting married and starting a family Ingrid made the decision to go to nursing school. With three kids at home, she still managed to study day and night, earning top marks in all her classes. She earned two degrees and poured her heart into nursing, becoming the kind of nurse every patient hoped for and whose care touched countless lives. Nursing wasn’t just her career—it was her calling, and she treated every patient with the kindness and care that came so naturally to her.
She will be remembered for her compassion, supportiveness, selflessness, and her infectious laugh. Most of all her fierce attitude, Ingrid was never afraid to tell it like it is. Her bluntness always came from a place of love and a deep desire to do what was right—her moral compass was truly unmatched.
Her beautiful soul shined through everything she did. She loved life’s little joys, whether it was running off to the casino with Knowland, watching a “bad” western movie, getting a scratch-off ticket, or lighting up the room with her smiles as she busted out in a whine. Her warmth, humor, and spirit touched everyone who knew her, making her presence unforgettable.
Ingrid was the most loving and caring mother, grandmother, aunt, and sister one could ask for. She constantly encouraged those around her to be their best, offering support and guidance along the way. Her compassion and unwavering strength left a lasting impact on everyone who knew her. Those who knew her felt her warmth in their hearts and loving her was simply inevitable.
Ingrid is survived by her husband Knowland Joseph. Her children, Nolan, Dwayne, and Candice. Her grandchildren Daiya, Gabby, Maya, Sarah, Rachel, Hadassah, Ana, Faith, Christian and both Graces. Her siblings Margaret, Jaqueline, Tony, Cheryl and Compton. Among her many beloved countless nieces and nephews, she held a special bond with Nicole, to whom she was like a second mother.
Ingrid joins in eternal rest her parents, Irene and Alexander, her siblings, Jeanette, Lynette, Desmond and Colin, and her dear Auntie Tunance — all of whom helped shape the remarkable woman we had the pleasure to know and love.
Thank you for all of the support and prayers during this difficult time. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank all our family and friends for their love, support, and for sharing in the celebration of Ingrid’s beautiful life. Though we no longer see her, her spirit, love, and the memories we shared will remain with us forever.
