

Joseph Vincent D’Orso, of Orlando, Florida, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 11th. He was born on July 2, 1942, in Norwalk, Connecticut, to loving parents, Vincent and Faye D’Orso. He graduated from the University of Dayton, where he met his beloved wife, Virginia. While pursuing a degree in Political Science at Dayton, he served as a cadet in the ROTC Program, attaining rank of Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army upon graduation.
Following college, Joe proudly served his country in Vietnam, eventually achieving rank of Captain in the United States Army 25th Infantry Division. He was a revered, highly decorated Vietnam War Officer and Army Airborne Ranger, earning the Bronze Star for his bravery and service. Following his time in Vietnam, Joe served as an instructor for the Airborne Infantry at Ft. Benning, Georgia, training and mentoring the next generation of soldiers. Guided by his leadership, work ethic, and discipline, he lived a life defined by deep patriotism and steadfast devotion to his family and country. He attained key leadership roles within several manufacturing companies over the course of his civilian life, eventually serving as a consultant in the telecom industry. After retirement, Joe served as a mentor and therapy facilitator to younger veterans attempting to re-enter civilian life after time in Middle East combat zones.
Joe is survived by his wife of 60 years, Virginia, sons, Christopher (Christine), Jay (Sharon), daughter, Ann Berke, grandchildren, Harrison (Hannha), Alex (Morgan), Sydney, Stephanie, Christopher, Nicholas, Seth Berke, and sister Patricia (Rick) Scharmer.
Joe’s greatest fulfillment came from watching his family grow and thrive. He took particular joy in supporting his grandchildren’s many activities, especially their athletic and extracurricular pursuits, where his pride was always evident.
Known for his steadfast character, humility, and unwavering love for family and country, Joe’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
A private celebration of life will be held for the family.
