Joyce C. Gibson

Joyce Caldwell Gibson, 92, passed away at her home in Orlando on June 2, 2017. She was born March 28, 1925 in Wauchula, Florida to the late Herman Caldwell Sr. and Mabel Wilsey Caldwell. She moved to Orlando as a young child and remained here for most of her life. She graduated from Orlando High School in 1943. She then attended Stetson University in DeLand, Florida where she graduated in 1947 with a Bachelors Degree in Education. She was a member of the ZTA sorority. She worked for Orange County Public Schools, as a Physical Education Teacher and Varsity Cheerleading coach at Edgewater High School until she retired. Joyce was most happy when she was spending time with family and friends. Whether she was playing dress up with her great nieces, doing craft projects, playing cards, swimming at the beach, lake or YMCA or attending the many family and friends celebrations, Joyce would always have a smile on her face. Joyce was a member of Lockhart Baptist Church, Lockhart, FL, where she and her husband Paul were faithful servants to the Lord. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Paul, her parents Herman and Mabel Caldwell, her sister Betty Caldwell, her brothers Herman (Ruby) Caldwell and Bob (Irelle) Caldwell, and her niece Barbara Caldwell Granger. She is survived by her nieces Cheryl (Patrick) Helm, Cathleen Caldwell Stokes, her great nieces and nephews Robin (Jeremy) Brandon, Steven (Christina) Helm, Tracey Stokes, and Barbara (Chris) Stokes Timpson, Michael (Ruthie) Granger, David (Peg) Granger, Stephanie (Ray) Sullivan. Her great-great nieces and nephews, Vicky Brandon, Jordan Brandon, Matthew Brandon, Ryan Helm, Nathan Helm, Bayly (Chris) Felch, Morgan Granger, Davis Granger, Collin Sullivan, and Granger Sullivan. Her Memorial Service will be held Friday, June 9th at 11:00 am at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Road, Gotha, Florida.
