

Larry was born September 20, 1920 to Samuel Leroy and Delia Amelia Cecilia (Letourneau) Cheever in Eagle Point near Jim Falls, Wisconsin. With only an 8th grade education, Larry was drafted into the US Army in 1942 and served in Europe and Africa as a Medical Technician (Tech 5). He received a Bronze Star for going beyond the call of duty, a Silver Battle Star, a Good Conduct Medal, a WWII Victory Medal along with 5 overseas service bars and a service stripe.
After his honorable discharge, he left the family farm and attended Madison College in Tennessee where he completed high school in one year and began nursing school the following year. He met Lois Bale and married her on August 29, 1948. They both completed nursing school in 1951. Larry continued his studies and completed the anesthesia course in 1952. He gave anesthesia in Peewee Valley, Kentucky but settled down in Savannah, TN at Hardin County General Hospital where they lived and began their family with four boys and a girl. In 1961 they moved to Florida and completed their family in 1969 with another son. He retired as a nurse anesthetist from West Orange Memorial Hospital in Winter Garden and South Lake Memorial Hospital in Clermont, FL after 25 years of service. In 1982 Larry accepted a part-time position in Webster Springs, WV where he gave anesthesia another 10 years while enjoying gardening and traveling.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents (Sam and Delia), his wife (Lois), his sisters (Bernice, Eva, Mildred), his brothers (Leonard, Warren, Cecil, and Vern) and two daughters-in-law (Mariselle Diaz Cheever and Jean Alice Decker Cheever).
He is survived by his brother, Alvin Edward Cheever, his six children, Kenneth Wayne Cheever, Richard Lane (Domitila (“Elena”) Cruz) Cheever, Randall Lee Cheever, Melvin Lynn (June Gershon) Cheever, Betty Ann (Bobby) Haas, Robert David (Andria Otto) Cheever, 10 grandchildren, Adam Leroy (Audrey Mae Hatfield) Cheever, Kenneth Wayne Cheever II, Sarah Ellen (Juan Ochoa) Cheever, Lawrence Matthew (Stephanie Osley) Cheever, Jason Dustin (Mary Suzanne Rivers) Cheever, Nathan Lee (Kaitlin Johnson) Cheever, Nichol Marie (Cheever)(William “Haston” IV) Dulaney, Rachel Suzanne Cheever, Jesica Marie Cheever, Esther Joann (Cheever)(Luiz) Santos, 9 great grandchildren, Paisley Dawson Cheever, Isla Rhodes (aka Talia Grey) Cheever, Juan (“Juanito”) Diego Ochoa, Derick Nicholas Ochoa, Colton Gabriel Cheever, Aubree Koribelle Cheever, Rowan Genevieve Cheever, Konnor Franklin-Lewis Rivers, William (“Liam”) Haston Dulaney V.
Memorial Service will be on November 11, 2023 at 4 pm at the Apopka Seventh-day Adventist Church, 340 Votaw Rd, Apopka, Florida 32703.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be given to AWA dba Wings for Humanity, 4421 Airport Dr NW, Wilson, NC 27896.
A memorial service for Lawrence will be held Saturday, November 11, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Apopka Seventh-day Adventist Church, 340 Votaw Road, Apopka, FL 32703.
