Born in Washington, D.C in 1937, Lewis Herman Blood, affectionately known as Skip, faithfully answered the call of his country by joining the United States Navy. During the Vietnam War, he served aboard the U.S.S Hancock, where he worked on airplane engines, contributing to critical flight operations during a demanding period in history.
In 1966, Skip married Linda, and together they built a loving family. They raised two children, Jody and Daryl. Skip loved the Lord, and as a member of First Baptist Church of Winter Garden, his devotion to Christ remained at the center of his family, life and legacy.
After his military service, Skip continued his commitment to helping others by joining the fire department. He became a paramedic and was deeply dedicated to emergency medicine and public safety. In addition to his full-time duties, he taught CPR and EMT classes at night, sharing his knowledge and training the next generation of first responders.
Skip later advanced to the role of engineer, within the fire department, and concluded his distinguished career as a fire inspector. Throughout every stage of his life, military service, family, church, and public safety, he demonstrated dedication, skill and an unwavering sense of service to his community.
Outside of work, Skip found great joy in camping and spending time at the beach. He and Linda shared a lifelong love of the camping lifestyle and the friendships it fostered. Together, they created and managed six camping clubs for Giant Recreation World, building a vibrant community of fellow campers. Skip and Linda took great pride in sharing their passion for camping, adventure, and togetherness, forming lasting connections along the way.
