

Lois was born to Irving L’Hommedieu and Annette Schmidt L'Hommediu in Youngstown, Ohio. She spent her early years in Woodbury, Connecticut. Lois first came to Florida in the 1930’s with her family, living briefly in Dania and Miami. Her teen years were spent in Houston, Texas and St. Petersburg, Florida.
Lois graduated from Wheaton College Academy in Wheaton, Illinois in 1942. The War years were spent travelling with her father, an Army Engineer, throughout the country. She graduated from Florida Southern College in 1948 with a degree in religion, at which time she received the Walter L. Harris medal in Theology.
After one year of serving as a Youth Director at First Methodist Church in Ocala, Florida she made public school teaching her career. She taught Elementary school in St. Petersburg, and later Junior High school in Key West, Florida.
Lois married Sgt. Bernard Seward, USAF in 1952. After his discharge they moved to Atlanta where he was with the Weather Service. Here their two sons, Bernard Jr. and David, were born. Shortly afterward they moved to Key West, Florida.
After retiring from the public school system, Lois graduated from Unity School of Christianity and became a Licensed Teacher in the Unity Church. She founded a study group in Key West that later became Unity on the Keys. She went on to serve for 30 years in Christ Church Unity, Orlando. She also completed her Master’s Degree in Counselor Education at the University of Central Florida in 1996.
After the death of her husband in 1990, Lois married James Christopher in 1997. James passed away in 2009.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Irving L'Hommedieu and Annette Schmidt L'Hommedieu, and her sister Nancy L’Hommedieu. She is survived by her two sons, David Bruce Seward (wife Karen) of Orlando, Florida and Bernard Leonard Seward, Jr. (wife Heide) of Charlottesville, Virginia, her two grandchildren, Nicole and Sarah Seward of Orlando, Florida, and her stepchildren, David Christopher, James Christopher and Gail Hamilton (husband Greg). A Memorial Service will be held for Lois on July 15, 2023 at Unity of Central Florida Church, 771 Holden Avenue, Orlando FL at 11AM.
