

Louis M. Edwards, age 96, of Ocoee, FL passed away peacefully on October 28, 2024, after a brief illness. Louis was born in Sewells Point, Florida, grew up in Jensen Beach, Florida and Miami, Florida. He graduated from Miami Edison High School and earned college and post-graduate degrees from the University of Florida and Florida State University.
Louis was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving in California teaching pilots mathematics. Louis was a retired educator, spanning an education career of over 37 years, investing in the lives of young people, beginning in 1955 at Edgewater High School teaching mathematics, in 1961, Louis was appointed Orange County’s Supervisor of Mathematics and then in 1967, he joined the newly formed Valencia Community College, where he became one of the first two mathematics instructors. In 1968, Louis became the first department Chairman of Mathematics for Valencia Community College and continued to serve in that capacity from 1968 until his retirement in 1992. Louis also started and hosted for all of his years at VCC, the Orange County Mathematics Competition, hosted and supported the Super Bowl Competition on
Valencia’s West Campus; and supported the Brain Bowl team at Valencia annually until his retirement in 1992.
Louis was a faithful servant of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He shared the good news of Jesus with all that would listen. He served faithfully for many years as a Deacon at North Park Baptist Church and most recently, at First Baptist Church of Central Florida/Church at the Cross. He loved His Savior and always pointed people to Jesus. We have comfort in knowing that when he entered the pearly gates on Monday morning, October 28th, 2024, that Jesus was there to greet him and say “well done, thou good and faithful servant!”
Survived by his wife of 72 years, Margaret Edwards; daughter, Brenda Edwards Mires; David (Connie) Edwards; granddaughters, Erin (Bucky) Hendricks, Cara Edwards, great-granddaughter Isabella Hendricks; several nieces and nephews and other loving family members.
Celebration of Life service will be 3:00 p.m., November 3, 2024, at the Church at the Cross, Pastor Dexter Johnson officiating. The visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to One More Child www.onemorechild.org or Samaritan’s Purse www.samaritanspurse.org.
