Malchand Prem

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Malchand Prem of Clermont, Florida, on Saturday, December 23, 2023. Formerly of No. 57 Village, Corentyne, Berbice, Guyana. He died peacefully in his sleep after a brief illness, at the age of 93. He lived much of his life in Guyana, migrated to the USA in 1986, lived in New York and then moved to Clermont, Florida in 2021.

Malchand was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, the late Savitri (aka Baby), and his eldest son Rohit. He is survived by six of his seven children: Suresh (New York), Ravin (Delaware), Ushar (Canada), Mala (Florida), Dolly (New York) and Devika (Canada). Father-in-law of 5, grandfather of 9, and great-grandfather of 9. Brother of 13 siblings of Guyana, USA and Canada.

In Guyana, he was a business owner, farmer, and had a very long and dedicated working career with the Guyana Water Authority. In the USA, he worked as a Security Officer at the Alexander Department store, Bronx New York. He was also very well-known for his Orthopedic and Chiropractic services.

He was extremely people-oriented, in his hobbies, career and daily life. Family, culture, spirituality, and community service were hallmarks of his life. He loved life, was quite humorous, kind, and helpful to others. His quick wit earned him many friends. He will always be fondly remembered as a very devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather, loving and caring to everyone.

Malchand Prem’s Hindu Funeral Rites & Rituals will be held at Woodlawn Funeral Home in Gotha, Florida.

Please join us on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 for Visitation from 6-9pm and for the Services on January 4, 2024 from 9am-12pm, culminating with cremation at 12-noon. Please see below for Zoom information.
