The truly incomparable Marjorie Kimball Hamm left us on September 11, 2014. Margie was a fighter until the end and finally succumbed to complications of her advanced age of 91. She was originally from Palm Beach, FL, where she showed her strength by barely escaping a hurricane that took the lives of her mother and younger sister when she was just 3. She and her two surviving sisters, Irene and Mae, were raised by her grandmother. She relocated to Gotha, Florida in 1947 and was one of its most well-known residents. Some may remember that the town landmark, Yellow Dog Eats, was originally Hamm's Country Store, where Margie simultaneously worked and raised her family with her husband, Bill. She is survived by her two daughters, Sandra Girvin (husband, Ralph) and Barbara Bryan; two grandchildren, Caroline Hartman (husband, Sean) and Charles Girvin; and, two great grandchildren, Jameson and Liam. She will always be remembered for her tenacity of spirit and her love of everything irreverent. She loved to pretend to be annoyed by an off color joke, but was always the first to laugh. After retiring she found her greatest joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren, teaching them how to dig for worms and catch a fish. She believed a southern cooked dinner, a high ball and some time spent in the sun could cure anything. She was never too busy for visitors or a stray cat or dog. She will forever be missed. Services entrusted to Woodlawn Funeral Home, Gotha, FL on Monday, Sept.15th at 10am. Condolences offered at www.woodlawnfuneralhomegotha.com
