As a child and teenager, Michael loved playing baseball, driving fast cars, and listening to music. He had a passion for journalism and wrote for the high school newspaper as well as the company newspaper for Sea Ray Boats. He graduated from Imlay City High School.
Michael met Anita Wood at a dance at the American Legion, and at the age of 19, the two embarked on what would be a 53-year marriage. Michael and Anita were the fourth generation to live in the Gannett family farmhouse, set on 125 acres of farm land with an apple orchard in Imlay City, Michigan. Michael worked in factories for Ford Motor Company and Sea Ray Boats, and he was even a radio D.J. for a bit. In 1979, his daughter, Nicole, was born. The family moved to Orlando, Florida in 1983.
In 1987, their son, Michael was born, and their family was complete. Michael and Anita started their own business, Heaven Sent Janitorial, which they would run for 41 years. They also owned Rainbow Trail Laundromat for 11 years. Michael found great satisfaction in the janitorial and remodeling work he did for others. He found value in helping others. Michael most enjoyed spending time with his family.
Weekends were often spent barbecuing in their beautiful backyard, watching NASCAR racing and just being together.
Michael became a grandfather in 2008, and he had four grandchildren that he adored, Sawyer and Elizabeth Kleinsteuber, and Bexley and Lennox Gannett. Michael was a wonderful and playful grandfather, often hammering away in his woodshop and sneaking the grandkids extra ice cream and chocolates. His favorite place to be was home, but he did enjoy going to the beach and to Key West.
Michael is survived by his wife, Anita, his children, Nicole Kleinsteuber and Michael Gannett, his children-in-law, Eric Kleinsteuber and Shelby Finch, and his grandchildren, Sawyer Kleinsteuber, Elizabeth Kleinsteuber, Bexley Finch and Lennox Gannett.
Michael leaves behind a legacy of hard work, love and enjoying life’s simple pleasures.
Services will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery on Friday, July 11, 2025 at 2:00.
