

Roger Van Dyk, 65, of Orlando, Florida, went to be with the Lord on July 14, 2012. He was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Thomas and Dorothy Van Dyk. He served as a Specialist 5 and Aircraft Turbine Engine Mechanic with the 400th Transportation Detachment, 14th Combat Aviation Battalion in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Roger earned a Master of Public Administration from Western Michigan University. In his earlier career, he served in two City Management positions in Michigan. He has worked in different managerial positions throughout his life including Commercial Truck Sales with Orange Buick and as a Sargeant at Islesworth Security. Most recently,he enjoyed working as a Motor Coach Operator for Mears Destination Services, Inc. He was an avid beach-goer, golfer, and boater. He was the consummate husband, family man and friend. He is survived by his wife of sixteen years, Brenda Shaw Van Dyk; three surviving sons, Robert Van Dyk, Christopher Waller (Tiffany) and Shawn Waller (by marriage); granddaughter, Nina Waller; his mother, Dorothy Van Dyk, brothers, Tom Van Dyk (Lois), Dale Van Dyk (Gloria) and David Van Dyk (Judi); sister, Janice Goldthorpe (James). He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Van Dyk, and son, Ryan Van Dyk.The family will be receiving family and friends on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 from 5 to 8 pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 19, 2012 at 12 noon.
