Rosa Lee Sawyer

It is with deep sorrow and with much love that we mourn the passing of Rosa Lee Sawyer of Pikeville, Kentucky. Rosa Lee departed this life on December 4, 2023 at the age of 78 after a hard fought battle with cancer.

Rosa Lee was born on December 19, 1944 in Pike County, Kentucky to Lloyd and Mellie Blankenship. Rosa Lee was the youngest of three siblings, survived by her sister, Stella Justice. In addition to her parents, Rosa Lee is preceded in death by her husband, William (Bill) Sawyer, her brother, Harold Blankenship and her niece, Brenda Benton.

In addition to her sister Stella, Rosa Lee is survived by five nephews: David Blankenship, Randy Blankenship, Nathan Mounts, Brent Blankenship and Philip Justice. She is also survived by two nieces: Cheryl Ward and MellaDee Blankenship. Rosa Lee is also survived by a host of great nephews and great nieces, a special cousin, Robin Richardson as well as special friends, Jesse and Mitzi Williamson.

Rosa Lee retired from the Walt Disney Company in Florida having worked for over 35 years, enjoying her time traveling and experiencing new adventures. Rosa Lee was known for her bigger-than-life personality and her spunky attitude. It was often said of Rosa Lee that she was, “little but loud.” Rosa Lee was an avid lover of animals and often rescued cats in an effort to provide a better life for them. She was very charitable and was always looking for a way to serve. Rosa Lee had enormous love for her family and friends and helped take care of her husband and parents when they became ill.

Rosa Lee will forever be remembered for the love she had for her family, her love for animals, her service to those in need, her courageous spirit and her contagious laugh that could brighten anyone’s day.

Arrangements for Rosa Lee Sawyer have been entrusted to Woodlawn Funeral Home in Gotha, Florida. A Graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Gotha, Florida.
