On February 2, 2023, Rosie, as she was lovingly called by family and friends, was finally reunited with her sweetie in heaven. As a house full of family said their goodbyes, her Chuck undoubtedly greeted her with pink roses and a warm embrace. At 93 years old, she held onto her strength and feisty spirit until the end.
Rosie was born to William and Rose Martino on November 6, 1929, at their farmhouse in Cairo, NY. Both of her parents immigrated from Sicily in the early 1900s, bringing with them a strong sense of belonging and plenty of Italian family recipes. She was one of five children. The Martino family owned a vacation resort in the Catskill Mountains where they would spend their summers. Their winters were spent in Orlando, Florida where in 1944 her father purchased a citrus grove that the family lived on.
Graduating from Orlando Senior High school in 1948, Rosie was a member of the pep squad and was known by many of her classmates as a “swell gal”. Within just a few short years that gal would meet Mr. Charles M. Beach and he would agree, she was quite the catch! Mr. Dallas McLaurin, a mutual friend, introduced the pair at a café called Buddies. Chuck was smitten and made it his mission to court this beautiful lady no matter how long it took. The pair eloped and were married on April 6, 1952, in San Luis Obispo, CA. Mr. and Mrs. Beach spent 66 loving years together. You only had to be with them a few minutes to experience a love that most of us can only dream of.
Rosie had a heart for helping others. As a homemaker and mother to Charles Monroe Jr. and Kathleen Rose, she enriched the family with school projects, homemade costumes, and birthday cakes from scratch. She served as a Pink Lady volunteer with Orange Memorial Hospital for over twenty five years and when her retirement from that felt too slow, she started volunteering at the Tissue and Eye Bank in the early 2000s. That big heart did not stop at humans, she was also quite an animal lover. Owning countless canaries in her lifetime, she could often be found humming along with her yellow feathered friend in the kitchen as she put on the morning coffee. In their beautiful rose garden, you could always find the bird feeder full in the hopes of spotting another cardinal or blue jay while Chuck and Rosie sat in their rocking chairs on the back porch.
After living in the same house for over 52 years, Beach became a household name around their block. Neighbors turned to friends as the years passed and eventually those friends turned into family. Rosie enjoyed spending time with friends, but her fondest memories were trips to Bonita Springs with Fran and Dallas. While the men fished, the ladies went hunting for shells. In a poetic close to a beautiful life, Rosie spent the last four years of her time here on earth back in Bonita Springs. Her days were filled with butterfly gardens, golfcart rides and the Hallmark Channel. She cherished shopping trips and slow afternoons with her granddaughter Lauren, listening to Frank Sinatra. Kathleen (daughter) and Dave lovingly built a life full of everything that brought Rosie joy, with an all-pink bedroom and of course her rocker on the porch facing the bird feeder.
Rosemarie is survived by her two children: Kathleen Berry (Dave) and Charles Jr. (Casandra). She also leaves behind two grandchildren Lauren Berry and Carianne Brubaker (Marcus), as well as two great-grandchildren Reagan and Brady. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chuck Beach, her sisters Lillian, Ann and Fran and her brother Sidney.
The family are asking that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Rosie’s name to a breast cancer research organization of your choosing. We all know someone fighting their own battle.
