Ruby Persaud

Ruby Persaud was born on January 29th 1933, in Waakenaam, Guyana to Bhagwantie and Ghanga Persaud. The third of 12 siblings, she helped raise, care, and provide for her brothers and sisters. Ruby married her husband, Harry Persaud and together they had 5 children: Jean, Sissy, Sally, Jenny, and Steve.

She lived and worked as a farmer with her husband and family in Leguan, Guyana before migrating to New York in 1979. She worked in housekeeping to help provide for her family until she retired and moved to Florida. She loved cooking, gardening, fruits and vegetables, sweets, her husband, and most importantly her children. Her husband passed away in 2021 and she lived peacefully and was cared for by her son and his family during her last few years.

Ruby passed away in comfort on a calm Saturday afternoon, April 29th 2023; 90 years of age in Clermont, Florida.

She is preceded in death by her mother Bhagwantie, her father Ghanga, her husband Harry, 8 of her siblings, and 2 of her daughters: Sissy and Sally. Ruby is survived by her brothers David and Edward, her sister Agnes, her 3 children Jean, Jenny, and Steve, her 13 grandchildren, and her 20 great grandchildren.

A visitation for Ruby will be held Friday, May 5, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Woodlawn Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Road, Gotha, FL 34734. A witness cremation will occur Saturday, May 6, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Woodlawn Crematory, 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Road, Gotha, FL 34734. A funeral service will occur Saturday, May 6, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Road, Gotha, FL 34734.
