Russ, just thinking of you makes me smile.  I can't remember one time that I spent with you that I didn't have at least one really good laugh.  I will remember many things, but your joy is what I will remember most and it will live in my heart forever.

I met Russ in 1989. We were both working at the Hoop Dee Doo Revue. He was Jim Handy and I was Dolly Drew. 
He always thought he could kick higher than he really could and once every couple of weeks we would turn to see Russ having kicked his own foot out from underneath himself in unforgiving silk/polyester pants.
 His boots presented a balance problem as well considering all the chicken grease on the floors, and again, we weren't surprised to find him on the floor while we circled a table. He would return red-faced and laughing.
I ended up marrying my 6Bits, Mark Miller, and we have been together for over 20 years with 2 kids and a happy life.
After the Hoop, as Russ moved into casting, I was moved to the Comedy Warehouse on Pleasure Island, where I worked happily for 16+ years. He was the first person to sort of guide me, in a backhanded way, to ask for more money when a contract is offered. I am forever grateful, and always ask!
He would ask me at those meetings, "So, what color are your nails, Krista?" 
I would reply, "Blue, Russ. Is that a problem?!".
He would smile and say, "No." all the while laughing to himself at my audacity.
He was an unexpected smile waiting to happen. A laugh in the making. A warmth and a beauty that lives on in all those he touched.

I'm so sorry to hear that Russ has passed away. I will never forget when I first met him and that beautiful comforting smile he had. He will forever be missed for his high spirit and friendly nature. I want to also thank him for giving me the opportunity to work professionally.

When Russ was a senior in High School he came to pick our daughter, Tammy, up for a date and Gary, her father, met him at the door holding a shot gun.  Russ laughed, his wonderful, infectious laugh and we all fell instantly in love with him.  Who but you, Russ,could get Gary and Lee to audition for Shakesphere Company?  Who but you, would use an overhead electrical socket as a microphone and sing "oklahoma" to the customers while hand-dipping frozen custard at Spanky's?  No one ....  You are forever loved and forever missed.  We're separated for a time but we'll laugh together again in heaven.

My heart was heavy when I heard just today of Russ' passing. I was so excited to contact him when I return to Orlando next month in a starring Broadway role. It is hard to believe that dear Russ is no longer with us.  We worked together when he first arrived in Hong Kong and he was always so supportive and encouraging to my students, who were just starting out on their professional careers.  He brought so much happiness to so many people...............he will be sorely missed.

This news is so very sad. I went to high school with Russ & looking back now, I remember how talented I knew he would be. I remember him in all the school plays, mostly taking the lead. Growing up in a "musical" town, Russ fit right in & was headed for stardom. Many years have passed and thanks to social media, I have been able to keep in touch with old friends. Thanks Christine for posting this tragic news. It's hits hard this time around, I think this is the 1st death of our childhood. My thoughts & prayers go out to his family. Russ was much too young to pass on.

Like so many whose lives he touched, Russ hired me from an audition tour in 1995 and started a whole new series of chapters in my career. He will be remembered as someone who loved his craft, his colleagues, his friends, and life. The world is a better place because of all that Russ has done.

Russ was a gentleman... and a gentle man.  Working with him was always a true pleasure.  He was quick with praise and he handled every issue with kindness and dignity.  I will miss his professional cameraderie but will carry his example of professional dignity with me always.  My sincere condolences to Russ' family. I was one among many who knew Russ through Disney. He cast me in the Hunchback show at MGM which I am very thankful for.
