William “Bill” Keith Clark ( March 8, 1927) and his “Little One”, Winifred “Jean” Hauck Clark, (Dec. 13, 1927) went to be with our Lord April 16, 2020 and April 26, 2020 respectively. They met their senior year (1945) at Crawfordsville (Indiana) High School. After graduation, the former Eagle Scout served in the Navy during WW2. Upon his return they married Sept. 11, 1946 and he attended Wabash College. Class of 1950 and member of Kappa Sigma fraternity.
Bill was Advertising Manager of Hamilton Cosco, Inc. in Columbus, Indiana where he was active with National Junior Chamber of Commerce, serving as President of the Columbus Jaycees, and as State and National Director of the US Jaycees. A transfer to Gallatin, Tennessee with Cosco resulted in the ultimate lifelong Vols fan- “GO BIG ORANGE!!!”. When he took the same position with ASG Industries in Kingsport, Tennessee he was even closer to UT Heaven. In 1973 they moved to Orlando, FL. where he was Director of Advertising for Tupperware Home Parties. The warm weather and sun was just what they were looking for. They loved spending weekends and vacations at the beach.
During those years they raised us, their 3 children, Jeff Clark- Murfresboro, TN., Beth Carpenter (Catherine)-Ocoee, FL and Sarah Purdy (Rick)- Tampa, FL. They always put home & family first, constantly being involved in our activities. Mom always said she was a “depression child” who enjoyed her family, home, yard, arts & crafts, and volunteer work in schools & libraries. She hoped her epithet would be “She lived, She loved, She tried”. We fully believe she well exceeded her expectations.
Upon their retirement in 1989, they moved to Fountain Hills, AZ. where Dad was active in The Club and Mom enjoyed her ceramic “Cottage Industry”, selling her crafts throughout the Phoenix/Sedona area. They loved exploring the desert & beautiful mountains of the west along with cruising the world together in later years. They returned to Orlando in 1999 to be closer to us, their girls, enabling them to enjoy their Grandchildren more often: Dina Clark Cowger (Erik), Traci Micah Clark, Daniel Clark Hicks, Jennifer Hicks Thomas (Terence), Gregory Charles Purdy, Jeffery David Purdy and 7 great grandchildren: Dylan Cowger, Jack Cowger, Kaden Thomas, Ryder Thomas, Mekiah Thomas, Jaxson Hicks, and Cole Purdy-who all loved them dearly.
Dad is predeceased by his parents, Charles and Leona Clark, as well as brothers Paul Clark and Harlan Hixon. Jean is predeceased by parents, Walt and Helen Hauck, brother John Hauck, sisters Pat Hauck, Jo Foerster and Mary Dulin. She is survived by sister Martha Kaminski and brother Tom Hauck. They are also survived by many loving nieces and nephews who will greatly miss them.
It was not surprising that this precious couple who taught us so much about life, love and family passed within a few days of each other. We rejoice that they are together again and know that one day we will be with them and Jesus. We thank them for all their sacrifices, guidance and love. We’re so proud to be their children & love them with all our hearts.
We are extremely grateful for the compassion and care that was provided to our parents by Sonata West Assisted Living, Winter Garden Home Care and Vitas Hospice of Winter Garden. It is our wish that any donations be made to Vitas Hospice, 12751 West Colonial Dr., Winter Garden, FL 34787.
