Alice Ellen Courney

COURNEY, Alice Ellen Foster - age 89 died Sunday, July 17, 2022 peacefully in her home with family at bedside. Cremation has taken place. Alice was born in Flint, MI December 16, 1932. She resided in Burton and for 30 years "snow birded" down to Harlingen, Texas. Alice married Robert (Bob) Courney July 3, 1962. She was a graduate of Flint Central and went on to nursing school at St Mary's in Saginaw. She worked at St Joseph Hospital her whole career and retired in 1986. She enjoyed reading, getting together at the club house while in Texas playing Hand N Foot and knitting. She is survived by: husband Robert Courney, son Joseph Wendt (Wanda) of Gladwin, daughter Salle Gean (Jerry) of Swartz Creek, daughter Lisa Shofner of Burton, step-son Robert G Courney of Flint, numerous nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Omer and Hilda Foster, son Scott Courney, step-daughter Theresa Courney Powell Bronson, sisters Liz Farkas and Donna Brander, brother Enith Foster, brother-in-laws Frank Farkas and Gregg Brander. There will be a family dinner at a later date. Special thanks to the staff at Kindred Hospice that became like a second family to both Alice and Bob, especially Kaylee Davis--she always made Alice laugh and smile. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Kindred Hospice Foundation.
