Clare graduated from Marybrook Academy. She married Robert Neil Hatten on November 18, 1952 in Richmond, Wayne County, Indiana. The young family moved to Grand Blanc in 1955. Clare immersed herself in nurturing her family and many dear friendships. She expressed her creative flair through her needlework, quilting, painting, ceramics, and doll making. Clare was always eager to learn something new and enjoyed reading, a good Scrabble game, and genealogical research. Having a curious mind drew her to a love of history. She was actively involved in many organizations, especially the Grand Blanc Heritage Association where she served as President and Museum Director for over 30 years; the Lt Edwin Terry Carrington Chapter of the Daughters of the Union serving as the Regent and Organizing Secretary on the National Board; and the National, State, and West Michigan Button Societies. Clare also served her community as a member of the Grand Blanc Building Authority, Board Member of the Genesee Historical Society and a Board Member of the Grand Blanc Sesquicentennial Celebration. Her passions were varied in this life but central was her faith and love for her family.
Clare will be lovingly remembered by her children: LaShell (Harry) Tallent, Leslie (Michael) Mulvaney, Steve (Sue) Hatten, and Scott (Melynda) Hatten; grandchildren: Clinton (Brandi) Tallent, Crystal (Sheldon) Nusbaum, Laura (Thaylen) Leany, Douglas (Abby) Mulvaney, Sara (Jason) Beldyga, Robert Hatten, and Michael Hatten; great grandchildren: Sean and Gracie Tallent, Heather, Justin, and Amanda Leany, Makayla and Megan Nusbaum, Raegan, Rylee, and Brody Beldyga, and Logan and Gavin Mulvaney; and sister Joyce (Gerald) McGrath.
