Don was born November 10, 1954 to John and Nora Wyatt in Indianapolis, Indiana, and was one of six children. In 1976, he married his wife Cathy (Himes) and later moved to Flint, Michigan.
For over three decades, Don worked for General Motors, primarily out of the Lake Orion plant as a millwright. He was a quiet man, but with a quick wit that never failed to elicit surprised laughter from those around him, even to the end.
In his spare time, he liked to ‘tinker’ around the house, ride his bike, and ensure all the birds and squirrels near his Grand Blanc home were well-fed and happy. Many of his quiet moments were spent sitting on his front porch or pouring over any one of his many Bibles. Mostly, he was content to cuddle and spoil his granddog, Elsie, who was a significant source of comfort over the last few years.
Don was the proud father of three children and grandfather to four. He instilled in his kids the tradition of ‘Slurpee Sundays’, taught them the art of creative cooking, and exemplified selfless love through quiet acts of service.
Don is survived by his wife, Cathy, his three children, Tom (Rachel) Wyatt, Stephanie Groesbeck, and Erin Wyatt, and four grandchildren, Garrett, Hannah, Gabby, and Jude.
He is also survived by his siblings: Ken (Gigi) Wyatt, Kathy Wyatt, Carolyn (Travis) McCormick, Susan Micks, and David (Carmen) Wyatt; his brothers-and-sisters-in-laws Bill (Linda) Himes, Ruth (Al) Rowland, David (Diane) Himes, Cheryl (Ted) Tolcher, Steve (Debbie) Himes, and many nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, John and Nora Wyatt, his granddaughter, Hailey Wyatt, and his niece, Linnea Strauss.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at 3:00 PM ET, followed by a celebration of life service at 4:00 PM. Both will take place at The Salvation Army, located at 211 W. Kearsley St., in Flint, Michigan.
