

BAXTER, Edward Richard Jr. – Age 85, died at home peacefully in his sleep on April 10, 2013. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, April 13 at 1:00 pm at Brown Funeral Home, 1480 E. Hill Rd., Grand Blanc, MI 48439, with Pastor Sue Colavincenzo officiating. The family will receive visitors on Friday, April 12 from 3:00 – 8:00pm. Burial will take place at Flint Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice or your favorite charity. Mr. Baxter was born in Flint, Michigan on April 6, 1928, the son of Edward and Wynona Baxter. He graduated from Beaverton High School in 1946. He married Lavona Thayer on August 26, 1950. After Ed Jr.’s father passed, he wanted all four of his children to compete in roller skating at Skateland Roller Rink in Mt. Morris. His children wanted to skate for Bev Schien at Rollhaven in Grand Blanc. After seeing his kids compete, he decided to compete himself. Within a few years, he started to teach at CLC in Burton, coaching artistic, speed skating, and roller hockey. In the end, he had a number of national championships. He was preceded in death by his wife Lavona. He leaves to cherish his memory, daughters: Dianna Baker and Sue Joslin; sons: Dick Baxter and Patrick (Kimberly) Baxter; granddaughter, Holly Hamilton; 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
