

John Edward Goldner – Age 71, of Grand Blanc, MI, died peacefully, Tuesday, November 11, 2014 after a short hospice stay. A memorial service celebrating John’s life will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 17th at First Presbyterian Church, Flint, MI. Visitation will be at Hill Funeral Home 11723 S. Saginaw St. Grand Blanc, MI, Sunday from 3 – 7 p.m. John was born in Flint, MI on October 8, 1943, the second son of Edward Henry and Vivian Adams Goldner. He graduated from Flint Southwestern High School, Alma College, and Michigan State University. John was an elementary school teacher, and middle and high school coach for Swartz Creek Schools. He taught at Anderson Elementary, was Principal at Myers Elementary, started and directed the Community Education Program, and was Assistant Superintendent for Operations at Grand Blanc Community Schools where he worked for 27 years. He loved teaching. The seven summers he worked as a Camp Counselor at Mott Camp guided him into education. John loved being active, playing basketball and tennis, skiing, and exercising at Hurley Health and Fitness Center. He loved to teach his daughters as many sports as he could. In addition, he taught his nieces and nephews how to water ski during their summers together at Platte Lake. He was proud to be a part of First Presbyterian of Flint, to have volunteered for the Bendle Elementary HOST reading program for many years, and his consistent dedication to AA for 27 years. John is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth Goldner Militello (Matthew), of Raleigh, North Carolina and Martha Goldner Thorell (Daniel) of Traverse City, Michigan. John has seven grandsons, Dominic, Luke, Gabriel, and Oscar Militello and Benjamin, Henry and Peter Thorell. He is also survived by his loving companion, Laura Karasick, who was by his side when he died, and her sons Gregory (Meghan) and Matthew, the mother of his children, Susan Damm-Fultz, his brother Thomas A. Goldner (Alma) and many nieces and nephews. He will by truly missed by all who loved him.
