

Kathryn Jean (Abbott) DeBarr of Genesee, Michigan died peacefully on May 23, 2017, after a long illness. Kathryn was a native of Flint, MI born November 30, 1954 and was a descendant of some of Michigan’s earliest pioneer families who settled in the area in the 1830’s. She was a lifelong member of Woodside Church in Flint where she sang in the choir. She was a graduate of Flint Central High School in 1972 and Baker Business College in 1974 and 1990. She married her high school sweetheart, Terry Lynn DeBarr, on June 28, 1974. In her early married years, she was a military wife and resided in Heidelberg and Weisbaden, Germany and Arizonia, Colorado, and Kansas. After the military, the DeBarr family resided with Kathryn’s parents, Richard G. and Doris (Miller) Abbot in Flint. She worked as a child care provided and earned her second degree in hotel management. Her career then took her to Ann Arbor where she worked for many years at Weber’s Inn and Holiday Inn, retiring in 2015. Kathryn is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Terry Lynn DeBarr; her brother, Richard James Abbott; sister, Julia Anne Abbott; nieces: Kathryn (Doug) Hickey and Kathy (Brian) Lam; nephew, Edwin DeBarr; brother-in-law, Robert (Shirley) DeBarr. She was preceded in death by her parents; mother-in-law, Margueritte L. DeBarr; brother-in-law, Daniel E. DeBarr. Arrangements under the direction of Brown Funeral Home, Grand Blanc, MI.
