

WHITTIER, Lillian Frances, - Age 84, of Grand Blanc, passed away Sunday, December 19, 2010 at Genesys Regional Medical Center. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2-8 pm at the Brown Funeral Home, 1480 E. Hill Road, Grand Blanc. Memorial Service will be held Wednesday 11 am at First Presbyterian Church in Flint, visitation to begin at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Flint – Ralph D. and Lillian F. Whittier Continuing Education Fund, Fair Winds Girl Scout Council Endowed Fund through the Community Foundation of Greater Flint, PEO, or the Richard D. Whittier Memorial Fund at Alma College. Fran was born on April 25, 1926 in Rochester, New York, the daughter of Sidney and Martha (Beckerley) Wood. Fran graduated from Keuka College in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing to become a certified registered professional nurse in the brand new United States Cadet Nurse Corps. She married Ralph Dudley Whittier in Texas in 1955, then moved to Michigan. In 1956, she retired from Flint General Hospital as the head of surgical nursing. Her second career was as a legal assistant to two estate lawyers. Fran was a dedicated wife for 36 years, loved her family, supported her grandchildren and was well known for her wonderfully dry wit. Community Associations included: Girl Scout leader and President of the Fair Winds Girl Scout Council, which she was honored for 35 years of service; Member of First Presbyterian Church of Flint, working as Deacon, Elder, office volunteer, Bishop Shoesmith Class member and usher. She was also secretary of the Flint Community Players, President of Flint Kiwanis Women’s Club, Granda Club, Keuka Alumni Association, Worthy Matron in the Order of the Eastern Stars, PTA and treasurer of the PEO. She is survived by her daughters, Patricia (Chuck) Lamoreaux and Barbara Whittier, and grandchildren Emily and Eric Lamoreaux. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Whittier and son, Richard D. Whittier.
