BruinsSlot, Lorene Mae, of Davison, passed away Monday, January 1, 2024 at The Ridge at Burton. Visitation for Lorene will be on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Brown Funeral Home, 1480 E. Hill Road, Grand Blanc, Michigan from 11:00am until the time of service at 1pm. The service will be officiated by Pastor Tommy McDoniel. Burial at Crestwood Cemetery. Lorene was born on December 7, 1940, in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of late Winifred (Rutter) Philp and Douglas H. Philp, Sr. Lorene married David C. BruinsSlot on May 8, 1976, and they had 40 years of marriage until his death in 2016. She was preceded in death by younger sibling, Shirley Craig, in 2022. Lorene was a member of Flint Asbury United Methodist Church.

Lorene graduated from Central Michigan University with a Teaching Certificate. She taught at Durant-Tuuri-Mott elementary school in Flint, retiring after 40 years of service in 2001. During her early years of teaching, she along with her younger sister, Shirley (who was also a teacher) spent their summers at the family cottage north of Oscoda. Lorene's main hobby was knitting, and she kept family members well supplied with knitted stocking caps, booties, and wash rags. Along with her husband, David, they enjoyed everything involving trains and railroading. In their spare time they would "chase" trains around Michigan, especially the antique steam locomotive no. 1225 out of Owosso. Lorene and David were volunteers staffing the train museum at the Owosso train museum. Lorene loved her pet dogs, especially pet "Bobby."

Lorene leaves to cherish her memory brother Douglas Philp, Jr. and sister-in-law Nancy Philp of Charlevoix, brother-in-law James Craig of Burton, niece Lindsay Lindemann of Clarkston, nephews Scott Philp of Charlevoix, Anthony Craig of Flint, and Robert Craig of Clarkston. Lorene is also survived by cousins Sandra Sorensen and Richard Philp.
